please read!

i called yoshi today to get some more info on pipe and ems kit (since i have them both on order) there were a few more questions i had . customer service informed me if you put on one of their full exhaust systems on you will run really LEAN if you don't richen it up via: ems kit or a power commender.

I was under the imperission that with the EFI if you threw a pipe on it would adjust? Does that Yoshi pipe make that big of a difference in the fuel mix? Also anyone know what the pipe alone is claiming in HP gain? Or with there ems kit?

I thought thats what the cherry bomb was for?

Also did you order yours through your suzuki dealer? or Yosh directly?

I think alot of people have the same impression....the truth is that the EFI requires the proper hardware for tuning (and its pricey)...the EFI is not going to automatically adjust to the large difference in air/fuel conditions from open lid, open pipe, drastic elevation change etc....EFI will be very efficient when tuned properly but....alot of people will be dissappointed that what used to be a $3 jet change and moving the needle clip will be substituted by higher priced hardware and electronics that they need to get used too...don't get me wrong, that does not deter me from the LTR but it becomes a whole new game with EFI to fine tune.

well, here's the deal, that cherry bomb is more than likely just a resistor. I'll check it out when it comes in and see if its something that might be built with some radioshack parts for about $5-$10.

Same goes with the ECU chip tuning. I'll more than likely be cracking open the ECU to take a look and see if I can't copy the maps and figure them out. Then burn some custom chips if possible.....But we'll have to see on that one.

wht180, you are probably correct...someone with an electronics background could figure this stuff out pretty easily I bet. It would be similar to the I-Cat product that came out a few years ago (in the dirt bike world) - A $200 resistor that I beleive someone figured out how to do it at home for $15....

Most Suzuki efi streetbikes can use a TRE device which is just resistors fooling the CPU into thinking that it is in a different gear !

Yoshimura pipe

We called Yoshimura yesterday trying to get a few pipes for stock and they said the pipe should be available about early March. They filled our order for some of the "cherry bombs" though. Yoshimura is usually fairly accurate on their info, so we'll all just have to wait.

I also checked Parts Unlimited for any new part numbers for the r450 but they didn't list any yet.

The Indy trade show (sorry, it's for dealers only) is just next weekend so the vendors should have example pipes and other goodies on display. Don't expect much to be available for awhile though. Having one on display and one for sale is two different things.

I can see the stock airbox lid being used for a frisbie after seeing how small the intake holes are in it.

I taped up the holes and use it for an airbox cover when washing.

Also while this EFI is better then a carb ,IMO, w/o a O2 sensor and a MAF sensor it can't be nearly as accurate as the EFI systems found on cars.

you are correct. its more than likely only working off a 2d map rather than a 3d map...... basicly its probably working off throttle position and revs with water temp as a correction.

I got my cherry bomb yesterday and I'm going to measure it this evening.

More than likely it fools the ecu into staying in a closed loop condition thinking the motor is still cold and forcing it to correct for cold temp...... remember with out a choke, the ecu just dumps more fuel to compensate for the low air/engine temp. Plus this thing mount up underneath near the radiator. I'll have to see where the wires come from when my ltr comes in.

it does have a choke and an intake air temp sensor. I'd say it uses the ect and iat to determine the fuel map as well as the throttle position.

LOL! I think Rich and King (Gary from .org) will be building the HP monsters!

I keep having to remind myself this is the wife's bike! Although, she really likes the power of my R and said she wanted something just like it...so, I am thinking upper 40's low 50 for the LTR...still have to stay on pump gas though...

yeah I'm wanting basicly the same thing. I like to turn left, right and jump once in a while so I won't be building a drag queen.

I try to build my maps for usable power, not just wide open throttle on a dyno or drag strip.

But, I'm sure we'll get her figured out and even if that means going to a full stand alone ecu then so be it. But I'm not doing anything too crazy while its still under warrentee.

edit: I called on the status of my bike just a minute ago and they are saying tomorrow (thursday). So I may just have to take off early from work and enjoy that good weather before the bad stuff hits.
