So i have both the Power Command fuel injection box made by Dyno Jet and the Yoshimura PIM/FIMAK.

From what i can already tell is the P.C. (power commander) really needs a lap top computer to fine tune where'as the Yosh setup already has the computer part built right into it. There is no reason to hook up to a computer for the yosh and it is very detailed yet simple to operate.

The other advantage is you can bring the FIMAK to your riding grounds and make much more accurate adjustments without lugging around a laptop. I know you can richen or lean the low/mid/and hi/ rpm on the fly with the P.C. but its more of a broad adjustment i believe.

The Fimak is a bit more to hook up but not all that bad. The P.C. is really easy.

I actually like the Yosh setup better and think its worth the extra money. Im sure your going to end up with similar results with both but thus far i vote for the FIMAK. I have not had the chance to actually test either unit on the bike so im just comparing physical differences.

Lost my damn camera so i cant take side by side photos or i would.

Anyone else who has experience with either of these units chim in and tell us what you know.....

Nice Writeup,

I'm also impressed with the FIMAK. I just actually started tuning last week and man it's easy to do. So much simpler than changing out jets on a carb.

I agree with you ...... also the PIM/FIMAK combo is not really more if you dont already have a laptop. If you get the Power Comander $350.00 and then a Cheap laptop $400. That more then the PIM/FIMAK. Also the FIMAK is better and easier to carry around then a laptop. FIMAK is also cheaper to replace if damaged.

I think i paid about 470-480 for the PIM/FIMAK and the P.C. was 260.00 so theres about a 200.00 difference which is pretty considerable. Some who have the lap top and figure on tuning one once or twice might want to save a couple hun. All in all though i still prefer the BIG MAK so far!

The one thing I have not been able to confirm is if you can change ignition timing with the PIM. I've been told that you can; using a laptop but you must plug the laptop in to the FIMAK not the PIM. I have no way of confirming this as I haven't seen a FIMAK yet.

For this to work the FIMAK must have 2 plugs; a RS232(serial) & a USB......PC via USB to FIMAK via RS232 to PIM.......

So; question is.....does the FIMAK have 2 plugs? has anyone tried this yet?.

Sup Link.... The Fimak does not have a usb port and does not look to be able to hook to a laptop, but then again it does not need to like the Power Commander does. There are much more in detail tuning options right on the Fimak and simply just doesnt need a laptop. There is a full screen with all the options and tuning details right on the screen. The Fimak is like having a mini laptop right in the palm of your hand. Only one multi pin looking port (sorry for my lack of computer knowledge) that hooks between the Fimak and PIM.

The Fimak and the Power Command both are not capable of changing ignition timing at all.

If i didnt lose my damn camera 2 weekends ago id take some pics for you.

370KingR is absolutely right. The PIM does not adjust timing at all and there is no way to hook a computer to the FIMAK and the PIM at the same time. I sure wish there was though. You can't even hook a computer directly to the PIM and get it to work. Well at least not yet. Someone will hack the PIM sooner or later and come up with a way im sure.

Is the Pc as adjustable as the yoshi combo to adjust to every rpm? I know thier both good but which is actually better in the tuning process. Or are the the same in in adjusting, just the PC needs a laptop.

What i still dont understand is why theres nothing out that can change the timing curves. Like what a dyna or vortex does to every other quad. You would get even more performance if you could load in different curves, one for mx, woods, drag etc.

Sooner or later somone will get into the PIM because it has a universal serial port doesnt it? It cant be that hard to get into and there a lot of people who could easily do it. If that ever happens it would be nice to be able to eliminate the use of the fimak and cut the price in half.

Ace, they are both tunable in every throttle postion and every rpm level the same So yes they are the same to tune and in the end will adjust the same things but just the P.C. needs a laptop.

what I like about the Fimak is that you unclip it when finished and the revised map is stored in the PIM. The PC needs to remain on the quad, how durable is it and where do you "store" it ??

Can the PC be adjusted on the fly with the engine running on the dyno ?>? if so this is a huge time saver, the FIMAK cannot. stop engine, change settings, save, rerun............ $$$$$$$$$ in dyno time in comparision.

The big question with the FIMAK is:

If you add a switch to your handlebar that hooks into the connector that switches from MAP 1 to MAP 2 do you have to turn off the bike for the MAP to take effect. I haven't researched this but I would say most likely yes but at least you have the ability to have 2 different maps in there that you can switch between if needed. This could come in hand for example if you were doing a Pikes Peak run. :D

I have not been able to test my PC yet...I'm like Fuel and have watched it spend more time in other peoples hands than under my ass...but from what I have played with it? It looks like any changes to the mapping have to be made on the computer THEN saved and sent to the PC...
The other nicer thing about the Yosh is the diagnostic codes...the PC does not have that feature :(
