Hi guys, I noticed a slight ticking sound on the right side of the engine. It seems like it is coming from the top or maybe deep inside, I cant really position it. I haven't really owned my LTR to long but it has been doing this since I got it and I had noticed that almost every LTR I looked at had this noise. Some were much louder and pronounced but mine is quite and seems to get quiter with a fresh oil change too. It runs strong and I have not had a problem with it. The guy I bought it from said he just had it apart and the valves were all good and that the sound was there ever since he bought it. Not sure if this is something that is just normal with the LTR's or not.

Mods = cherry bomb, removed baffel, and aftermarket filter(full box still just better filter)

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Does it change or go away when you pull in the clutch? Both of ours are noisy, but normal. When you have the stock exhaust with the peashooter, it really makes it pronounced, sounds like its gonna grenade compared to a multi cylinder car motor. Not near has nasty sounding as a cannondale tho :D

It doesn't change when I pull in the clutch and yes mine gets louder with the stock spark arrestor or whatever in... I really don't know what to think about it though. Because to me it seems like a normal thing beings as all the LTR's I have been around do it but at the same time I don't think ticking should be a normal thing, ya know.

There is a lot going on inside that thing. Since you cay that the noise is common between most of the LTR's you have listened to, I would say, it is normal. All of the speeding up and slowing down of the crank/rod/piston during it's normal operation, will cause 'torsional vibrations' in the geartrain. This can cause noise. That's why it's more fun to cruise in a V-8 than a 3 cylinder Metro. The more cylinders you have the more vibrrations are cancelled out by their respective companion cylinder. And then there is the Harleys to throw a wrench in that theory.
