I am just Curious, I was out riding in my yard today for about an hour or less and My LTR kept backfiring, I dont have many mods so it shouldnt be running lean, I have a YOSHI RS5 slip-on, Cherry bomb and lid off, what would cause it to backfire? it seemed to happen mostly between shifts, and it would usually be one or two pops. Just curious.

Thanks

By chance are you using race fuel? The reason I"m asking is that race fuel can break down the fuel filter under your tank and cause problems.

Here's a writeup from the Yoshi site:

FUEL FILTER
Inside the swirl tank (small reservoir attached to the petcock) there is a small fuel filter. This filter needs only to be replaced maybe every six months to a year if you run pump gas. But- with some race fuels, the filter needs to be changed frequently. Some race fuels will dissolve the filter. The symptoms of a bad filter are when the bike inexplicably starts to cut out. Usually in the air off of jumps with a chopped throttle.

Looks like I need to eat some crow because I didn't believe a clogged fuel filter could cause the quad to cut out in mid air. I still would like to know the physics of why this happens.

Something isn't right. I know there was one instance of an individual whose throttle body was not bolted down correctly from the factory and it ran very bad. You might want to check it.

Mine backfires a bit, I have CB, no baffle and lid off, nothing major, just a slight pop once in a while when I let off the throttle, runs like a champ though!!

This may sound elementary...but you didn't happen to top off the gas between the original ride and this last one did you?

a few things that come to mind....Was your battery low ? Was the quad wet ? I had the same thing happen after I did a half azz recharge of the battery AND when I was practicing in the wet. It popped and farted a bit while shifting and when the engine was under a heavy load.

It could also be that your loading up the engine. Although it is fuel injected its still possible to have it happen. If your going a lot of wide open for a second then off of it and over and over again, this will load it up with fuel and cause it to pop some. Remember to the engine doenst burn every bit of fuel and the spent gas can and sometimes does ignite in the head pipe.

Or it could be ready to blow up
