Well I got to try out the twist throttle on the local track yesturday..........it started out ok, deffinately didnt feel like my dirt bike, or even my dads old three wheeler, but i figured it was just going to take some gettin used to.....third lap around with my buddy I let him pass me so I can get used to riding behind someone with the new throttle, we come off a small single that opend up into a slidding flat corner and i accidentally pin the throttle........I cant let go quick enough so i pull the clutch in. By this time im up my friends yfz's a$$ sideways, i hit a rut that tosses my leg off the pegs and into his sprocket which then shoots my leg out under his tire. It pulled me right off the zuki and ran me over. I got up and ran to the side of the track luckily with only some major road rash.........im taking that throttle right back off tomorrow

live and learn i guess :p

More practice. It will become second nature.

Have a twist on my Z. Works great in baja/dune settings, no so well in MX. Saves arm pump but you arent as responsive to alot of obstacles (mainly mx type). Generally perferred if you ride alot if street bikes, which I do. But it can be a little iffy sometimes when the terrain becomes harsh.

I had one on my YFZ and liked it. YFZ's thumb throttles are horrible though. I didn't care so much for it in MX or tight areas, but great for Dunes/Desert. I learned to ride on a 250r with a twist so it's natural for me.

it was fun while dragging, but not so much for the mx stuff.......I just dont have the same feel of "control" with it. all the side to side motion with the handle bars just doesnt feel right. with my dirt bike there isnt that much side to side since its only 2 wheels........im pretty good with the thumb throttle so i think ill change it, maybe save it for the dunes later on......there was a deffinate increase in sensitivity. 1/8 of a twist stood the front end up, really snappy to........

i don't think i'd use one for mx, becuase bumps and cornering messed me up. i just couldn't get used to leaning way the quad and trying to turn my rist further down so it would go.

For a dirt bike a twist throttle is great, but on a quad it moves around way to much and the way you control it is completely different. Just throwing one on a quad and not being used to it will totally throw you off. A buddy of mine rode dirt bikes his entire life so naturally when he got a quad first thing was a twist, and even he had been riding forever it took a lot of getting used to!

I ride a street bike every day to work, and when i ride a dirt bike its awesome but on a quad i have never understood or been comfortable with a twist. Oh and try to hold on to a drag quad with a twist....sucks!!!

You must relax more on the twist. As with a thumb throttle you can squeeze the hell outte the bars and your thumb will still work. On the twist, if you lock up your arms you are gunna have response issues as well as problems in turns.

Slower right hand turns or fast left turns (when you have to counter steer) you need to come into the turns with a high wrist. Else you are gunna hit the tank with your arms.

Be careful of jumps, as on thumb throttles you can land on your bars and keep on truckin, on the twist you have a potential of locking the throttle open if you land wrong.

This all sounds like I am bagging on twists. I'm not, they are great for alot of applications for me. Desert, Baja, and Dunes that is the way it should be. MX...got into trouble a couple time....but so have I with the thumb, but I prefer thumb on the track.

i had one on my old blaster for like a week before returning it, i landed off a little jump in the woods and when i landed i twisted the throtel and then whent right into a tree...... so it didn't really work out for me, but i was started to get used to it so it just takes time, but off jumps i would always give to much gas when i land and i couldn't take that

Went into a tree huh?...You didn't crack the frame and then ask Yamaha for a recall did you?...Because I have heard that people do that and they should give you a new frame...

PS...trees are BAD...

Signed,
That guy that hit the tree on his LTR while ONLY going 3 mph... <_<
