Please read through the ENTIRE thread for all info.

I have an LTR engine split in the shop right now. I believe that I have found what could be causing some of these cases to break around the shift shaft boss.

When I dissassembled the bottom end of the engine, I found that the stud that centers the shift shaft was finger tight from the factory. I have found several other bolts on the right half of the engine that were loose as well. This is not the first time I have encountered loose bolts on the right case half of suzuki sport quads.

If you own an LTR, I would pop the side cover off and make sure that the shift shaft stud is tight, as well as the shift pawl retainer bolts.

As for transmission problems, I see the exact same problems with these transmissions as with the Hondas. If you lay the transmissions out side by side, you could not tell one from the other if you did not know the difference.

We are currently doing our ATP Transmission service to this LTR as we have done to ALL of our Honda race quads. We have had very good luck with our Honda Transmissions, so we will see how the LTR will hold up with it.

Hope this helps a bit, I know there are not many people out there who have had the engines down this far yet. I have one in the shop and 5 more on the way for full race setups.

Drop us a line if you have any other questions.

STUCK

Was flipping through the owners manual quick, and saw that pages 3-18/19 have some ok pictures for reference. Would you mind snapping a picture or two at all Mike?

Nice find ATP

I found my camera, LOL
I will get the parts back out and get some pictures in the next couple of days.

We also have a transmission service that will help with the neutraling problem as well. Obviously we have just started with the transmissions in these LTR's but it has proven to be a big success with our Honda Race engines.

Ok so I am running a little slow these days in getting anything posted, LOL

I finally recived all of the transmission parts that I needed from Suzuki, so I will be pulling the engine out of the box tonight and I will post pictures of the problem area. I also believe that I have one on the way in the shop that has already broken, so I might be able to fully make sure that this is what is causing the problem.

Thanks,
Mike

Any news on the dreaded gear "whine"
[/b]
We have not run into that problem on any of our LTR's as of yet. Team Suzuki had some of their quads doing that last year and as far as I have heard, a good synthetic oil will cure the problem. If we run into it, I will try and find it.

Ok, bear with me. I am not that good with photo editing but here are some pics of the problem area. As it shows in the second picture, the bolt has backed out approx. 1/4 from the factory. If this bolt is backing out, it will only add leverage to the problem. There are brackets available to help with this problem. I will try and get some info on the product that is available.

I had an LTR dropped off at the shop today that has a broken the case at this point. I will post some pictures of the problem area when I get the engine out.

Thanks,

Yeah and you feel better about hammering the shifter by not having to worry about it breaking the case! I did reply to a thread giving a review about this great product.

Thats not the intent.

From their website.

{Suzuki LTR450:

New Special:
Shifter Pin Relocator Plate $150
Due to a weak case design the stock LTR shifter pin location is prone to breaking, causing case damage and costly engine repair. This relocator plate bolts up to your stock cases, damaged or not. The included instruction guide allows you to upgrade the shift pin yourself in under 45 minutes.}

Basically what this involves is taking off your clutch cover and clutch basket. And your almost done. What the billet bracket does is mounts off three other points on the motor and relocates the pin to the outside of the case rathe than inside the case. This how your able to still use your old cases. Its a way to save people money and time with this problem.

The part sells for $150.00 But keep in mind that you will not have to replace your case nor take your motor out or tear it down. And the best part is you will never have the problem again.
