I was able to stop by the dealer and actually see what went wrong with the transmission.

The 5th drive gear was seized on the countershaft. The seizure looks to be cause by a lack of lubrication or heat build up.

If you look at the schematics of the transmission breakdown, you will notice that the 5th drive gear does not have a bushing. Only a light film of oil cushions the mating surfaces of the countershaft and actual gear. Seems to me, that there should be a bushing inside the gear like the rest.

Make your own conclusions, but my opinion on the whinning noise in the tranny was this gear not getting enough oil, or getting hot.

Hopefully soon my bike will be back together.

I did take some pics with my cell phone but you can barely see what you are supposed to be looking at.

Come on RECALL.... Recall Recall Recall. I can dream can't I. I really hope that if that is the cause of the whining I don't have to pay for it to get fixed. I don't understand why they would put bushings in all the other gears, but not fifth.

My dealer told me the engine was making the noise. I just laughed at him, I don't think he liked my response.

Warranty is great but what happens in another 6 months!?

Have they come up with a way to correct the issue IE new updated parts? Or when it fails in month 7 or 8 is it our problem?

Please let us know. My dealer is being real tight lipped, and I told them if they didn't have an update, they can keep it. I will not PAY to do R&D for SUZUKI!

I feel first year machines, should have a longer grace period just for situations like the ones we have faced with the Z-400 and now this model.

I roached my counter shaft & the EFI Module. Still waiting on answers from them!

Whats up Jake, I met you out at the Beumont race. My sons tranny went out on him that day.
We just found out what happened. It seems there is a pin or some kind of tab that is attached to the shift shaft and it makes contact with a tab on the engine case to prevent the shifter from going down to far, I was told that the rider pushed down to hard on the shifter and it broke off the tab on the engine case. Of course my son claimes he didnt do that but it makes sence since it broke after landing a 80 foot table top and came up a little short. I think he probably had his foot on the shifter when he landed and thats what broke it? who knows, but the good news is Suzuki is going to warranty it "this time". Needs a new case, over $2000.00 when its all done
