I've been running 4lbs in my 6 paddle extremes. It pulls 3rd up the hills, but not as hard as I would like. If I were to put more air in them, there would be less "drag"....right? I am wondering if I put 6-8lbs in them it would pull 3rd harder. Any thoughts?

I say you will only learn through experimentation.

IMO...the more air pressure the more traction you will likely recieve becasue the carcasses are more stiff...paddle will not give under torque. I would tell you to try 3.5 lbs next, then 3.75 lbs, 4.5, 5.0, etc and see.

The only way to really know is to have someone time you or race against your same friend for at least 5 passes...then make a change, 5 more, etc.

Just depends on how thorough you want the analysis to be.

I don't know if it will do the same in the sand but on asphault just going from 3lbs up to 8lbs was right around 4 quad lengths in a drag.

Well, In the Cinders there are hills that you won't make it up unless you air down. So, I was taking that concept and turning it around. More air, less bite. Thanks for you opinions guys. I've got some experimenting to do.

With MX tires, if I run anything over 5 1/2 lbs I get waaaaay less hook up and the back end starts washing out in fast turns. For some reason I have always been more lucky with lower pressure( under 6lbs).

An old friend showed me the benefits of playing with air pressure a while ago and ever since I've used what I learned to take advantage of other riders and their bikes even though they may have more motor then me. 6 psi is the starting point for me that varies based on what I'll be doing at the dunes, if I'm dragging then I'll increase if I'm just cruising another setting and so on! There are tons of variables that play a role in running the hill, these are all things we've tested and figured out what works. It would be too easy to share all these things with people because then we lose our advantge some know what I'm referring to others will be at the receiving end of the whooping spectrum. Even with 6 lbs of air in the tires I don't feel very much for bumps, hell I wasn't even sore from all the racing we did.

I have an example for you. I was at st. anthonys last week and on my first two tries up choke cherry I could barely make it. Infact I didnt make my first attempt. I was like what the hell is the problem. Well I decided to check my tire pressure in the rear, and it was at 8psi. Seemed high so I lowered it to 4psi and man what a difference. I made it up the hill so much better and alot faster. At 3/4s of the way up the hill I was still at 32mph. Which if you have been there is damn good. Someone was there with a radar gun and he was testing everyone. The fastest quad there that day was a trinity big bore raptor 734. He was hitting 35mph. This was on a steep long hill with real soft sand. So other surfaces may vary.
