Here’s the setup.

Winchester Bay this weekend, flat sand drags, around 300-400ft.

Me – 06 LTR, sparky removed, no lid, CB, 175lbs
Brother – 04 YFZ, Cam mod, LRD exhaust, Proflow K&N, jetted, 140lbs
Cousin – on my 06 YFZ, Cam mod, Rossier exhaust, FCI intake, jetted, 140lbs
Friend – 06 TRX, HRC cam, LRD exhaust, Proflow K&N, 185 lbs

I don’t drag race much, but I wanted to see how my almost stock LTR would do against my 06 YFZ. I lined up against my YFZ and didn’t lose once. My cousin was riding the YFZ and I think the whole drag race thing was new to him so I don’t really count that as a win, but it is nice to know I didn’t get my a$$ handed to me.

After a few races with my cousin my brother and friend wanted to have a go at the LTR. We raced probable five times and I only lost once to the TRX due to a bad start. The other four times I beat the TRX and my brothers YFZ. They couldn’t believe I could beat them with a stock quad.

Needless to say I am not disappointed in the LTR’s performance. I thought I wasn’t going to be impressed until I could put some money into the LTR like I did with the YFZ…I was wrong. I was also hesitant to ride my YFZ for fear that when I got back on the LTR I would be disappointed…not the case.

My YFZ VS an LT-R with Yoshi pipe and CB...My YFZ with the following;
Denton Ultracross +2 a-arms / Works Triple Rate w-rezzies front and rear
Cam Mod / -6 oz Trailtech flywheel / DMC ProComp4 full system / jetting done with EGA
Holeshot MXR4 front and rear / 909 fatbars w-3/4" riser.
This was at Richland MX park...me, I'm 46 and 200lbs....him, he's 17 and 150.
I followed the LT-R around the track for two laps to give him a chance to get a feel for the track and see how he would ride, then on the third lap I charged up and passed him on the outside of a turn. Although he should have held me off, I believe he was braking waaay sooner than he needed to. I noticed his suspension worked exceptionally well for stock, and his power delivery was smooth and predictable.....nice. Off the jumps his landings were like buttah. After the pass I rode hard and fast to put some distance between our machines, and like I said..he backed off too soon in the corners in my-honest-opinion. After I pulled about two turns ahead of him he pulled off the track. I think he was disapointed in what had transpired.
On the otherhand, I was thoroughly impressed by the new yellow LT-R. I thought long and hard...penciled out some numbers...sold my YFZ on Craigslist and ordered an '07 LT-R450 earlier this month. Had to go for the '07 to get the Bold New Graphics..heard it's worth some extra horsies!

Anyway...I converted for the same reasons some of the other YFZ/TRX people have. No jets, wide footprint, low profile, Zuki quality....I threw alot of money at the YFZ.....I'm thinking I can go cheap on the LT-R and still have the same thing...suhhhhweeet.
