Go to your local autoparts store and get a helicoil for that sucker. Just make sure you use the right size drill bit. You'll need to know the size of the bolt first so you can get the correct size helicoil.

Make sure you clean out the oiltank well after you tap it to get out the metal shavings.

i dont think i could do that. my father wouldnt trust me with that. I'm calling my dealer first thing tomorrow because i figure i'll let the professionals do it because i dont want to ruin it anymore than it is.

same thing happened to me on my z400! i was always extra careful to not strip it because i hear about it all too often. just like yours, mine never got tight and now its just stripped. i rode with it the other day leaking a few drops and it was fine but my clutch went soooo yeah. <_< i might look into the helicoil as well as a cheap fix for now. im from nj also and might go check out the wildwood race!

cool i'll see you there hopefully with my zuk if not ill be racin my piece o'chit blaster. well its nice ass hell only if it didnt have an engine problem like every 5 laps. well good thing the race is only 4 hahaha. well i'll see what the dealer says. i might take the bolt off, get a new bolt and get locktite for now. and then what happens, do i eventually have to get a new tank becuase i dont want to deal with this everytime i change my oil?

Yes, but helicoil is quick and painless. Could do it without removing the tank. Dont think you could with tap and die.

I have never used them before, so I'm pretty ignorant on the subject. :D However, don't you still have to drill out the old threads and tap new ones in for the helicoil to fit into.

yes, and helicoil is the best remedy. I was told not use loctite on aluminum but did anyway and sure enough I stripped out my oil tank to. Threaded aluminum strips easy but a stainless helicoil will make oil changes in the future much less stressful.

True...few of the racers who do oil changes religously (often between motos) will helicoil before it strips out to avoid the trouble.

i took the bike to the dealer today and they will have the helicoil dont by tomorrow just in time for my race at wildwood. thanks a lot guys. i should have known about this helicoil before so i could have saved me from this trouble. i like to change my oil once a week. i ride a lot like a little after school and a lot on the weekends. it was pretty funny when i got home and i tried to take my bike to the dealer. i have my tires at my school auto shop getting different tires on the stock rims so i had no wheels and it was pooooorrrring outside. i had to put it on a jack to roll it down the driveway to get to my trailer. and then i go to get tie-downs and they are all in my dads trunck so i used an extention cord to tie it down. hahaha well i got it there. thanks again guys. hey philys21, if you are racing c-class at wildwood and we are in the same heat, i call number 21. lol see ya there.

tomorrow from 1-4. i just got my hiper and i cracked the damn bolt :angry2: so i need to drill the bolt out. and by the way i cracked 3 bolts. so i have to use my stock rims with my kendas. and i just found out that when my brother mounted them, he had the tires the wrong way, so now i have one on the hard side and one on the soft side. but thats just for the practice. i'll have my hipers fixed tomorrow night. i just have to drill through it and pull it out. i just dont have the time right now. first i screw up my oil bolt, then this. it isnt a good time now. i got all glad that my oil tank was fixed and then the hipers. geesh i hope this race works out good for me. haha i just cant wait till its race time and hopefully all fixed. oh man am i pissed. just spent $340 on hipers and then 3 bolts snap. so much to do in so little time, clean the air filter now, number plates, get everything packed. i'm lucky if i get any sleep tonight. haha
