Anyone think, even with 18s, that the stock gearing is a little tall?
Third gear to me is probably my favorite gear, but it still think it needs to be slightly lower.

IMO I think one tooth up in the back would help third be more useable, on tigher MX tracks.

IMO the stock gearing with 18's is too low! When I broke in the quad it was in an XC type environment and I rarely used 1st gear...started and stopped in 2nd. I just thought 1st was so low it was useless to me.

Since then the stockers have not been on...21" dune tires with a 13T front. I still want to play with the gearing a bit and try a little higher and a little lower.

ehh..depends on a lot of things like mods, rider weight, prupose etc etc... For my mods and weight(220) I went to a 13t up front and with the stock 18's that thing is gnarly out of the hole. It didnt kill my top speed like I thought it would Im still right there with my buddies stock gear/tire YFZ's and Honda's...

Im more of a desert/dune type rider so I like motorin around open spaces, MX aint my cup of tea on 4 wheels B)

I find the stock gearing a little bit tall for tight woods sections, but otherwise I like it :D . I wouldn't want to lower it to much, since I enjoy the long gears. It has plenty of torque and revves fast enough as it is. I would hate to shorten up the gearing. Now that I have my LTR I am really liking the longer gears. When compared to the LTR, my old '92 LT250r was geared to low. That thing had way to much wheel spin, and in short drag races I spend too much time shifting gears.

I just have CB and filter, and I weigh about 175.
I like a bike that's super mean out if the hole, b/c I rode dirt bikes my whole life... so I'm used to that burst that some ATV lack because of the added weight/horsepower ratio. Plus, I like to lug the engine sometimes and the LT-R isn't a "lugger" thats for damn sure. It likes to be ridden mid-range and up.

I guess what I'm saying is I'd like to pull more turns in 3rd, and be able to blast out of them... right now with 18" Holeshot SXs third is a little to tall and second it too low.

Overall, I think the bike is geared pretty well... IMO I think it would benefit from one tooth increase in the back w/ 18s.

I think the gearing is pretty good for MX. The Suzuki's in our races are getting the holeshot most of the time. Third gear gets low enough to double big whoops and fourth gets over the 100 footer and the other big jumps at the tracks we go to. Of course, Joe is just racing C class but he ran with the B riders at the last fair race we went to and was faster than all but 2 of them. Another C class LTR beat all but one of the B riders. Both of these have a stock pipe. An aftermarket pipe would help the gearing even more.

back to the topic of gearing,,,,, I personally love the stock gearing! I weigh in @ 220 w/ gear, run 9" hipers wraped in orange labeled Razor Mxs and outpull more heavily modded TRXs and YFZ both off the gate and down the straights. W/ only a Full Yoshi exhaust, CB, and no air box lid I can pull out of (most) any turn in thrid, but I slip the clutch ever so slightly on exit if it's a tight, deep, slow turn.

Im running the 13 tooth front and it made me 3-4 bike lenghts faster w/18's on the rear. If your drag racing go w/ 13 tooth. If your riding country roads and like more mph stay w/stock 14 tooth.
