well im not running my air box lid, so my air filter is exposed to EVERYTHING! I ride in very sandy, dusty conditions, and after every single ride I need to clean my filter. It kind of gets expensive doing it after every ride, so Im wondering if any of you guys have thought of something that I could do to cover up the stock filter, so I can get away with cleaning it every 2 or 3 rides instead of 1. I was thinking of just buying an outerwear, and putting it rite over the stock filter, but I dont know if I will run into lean problems or not, or if it will even fit etc... well anyways tell me what you guys think, it would be greatly appreciated.
P.S here is a pic of the filter after one ride....maybe this is normal, but to me it looks dirty as sh*t!!

I have been having this same problem. With the airbox off in dusty conditions my filter has to be cleaned everytime. I dont want to restart the whole debate about foam filters vs. K&N but I will say that the K&N is much easier to clean. I am looking at the Trinity system now to replace it but I am not sure what the impact of that would be to the fuel ratio. Anyone have any idea?

Stock exhaust, CRBM, lid off.

Here is the link to the Trinity system.

yea but like a lot of people say, stay away from those types of filters in dusty conditions, go with foam. Im pretty sure Im going to order to pro design foam filter, that comes with the outerwear style cover.

If you guys open up those things your definately going to want to go with some kind of aftermarket fuel module...almost everyone will agree that you should go with either the Yoshi or the Power Commander...however...if your funds are limited then one of the lesser "Dobeck" configurations may be more in line with what your running...but something is better than nothing...so start researching before you paint yourself into a corner... :p

I thought by adding a new air filter to my ltr(pea-shooter removed, cherry bomb, and lid off) it would be fine? if I need to buy one of those power commander things, I will just keep my filter stock.

i think im going to order the ehs racing lid...thats a really smart idea that they have. I just want to know one thing, did you order the complete set where they give you the stock airbox lid and there filter is already built into it? or did you buy everything BUT the airbox lid(because you already have one) What im trying to say is did you have to install the ehs racing lid, or did it come already made?

Wally.... Junkie is refering to the Pro-Design (or similar). It will let more air in and you will end up lean.
A foam filter with the EHS lid is the way to go for you.

I have the Pro Design foam filter which is a two filter system. My buddies and I rode 5 hours at Little Saraha two weeks ago. I cleaned my filter after our trip and the outer filter had about 3-4 tablespoons of sand in it. The inter filter almost nothing. So having said that I spanked my buddies bikes all day long, yzf 450,06 trx 450. Sure felt good. My suggestion is get rid of the stock filter,it will soon fall apart. My filter fell apart after the first cleaning.

Cut the center out of you lid and put some pantyhose over it. Cheap ehs lid alternative. I did this on the lt250, worked pretty good.

lol you guys really think that would work? I just cleaned my filter, and Im going riding this weekend, and the EHS racing lid wont be here for another week or so(just ordered it today) so Im thinking of actually doing the pantyhose thing. I can see a lot of stuff going through panty hose though, it isnt too durable, is it?

You could just buy some filter skins from your local dealer. I think Parts Unlimited has some PC racing filter skins made for dusty conditions. Plus they can be reused.

For all the fun we poke at you... now somebody says use pantyhose...BUT yes that is an "old" trick ----
that's what eventually evolved into the outerwears.

ok cool thanks guys. Im going riding this weekend and just dont feel like cleaning my filter after EVERY ride anymore. So I will use the pantyhose idea for one day, and then when my EHS lid gets here, obviously I will use that. I would really like a pic of this EHS racing lid though, not just from their site, but actually on an LTR.
