okay, I thought a spark arrestor was mainly just a silencer, and nothing more. But Im finding out that thats not the case...What exactly is it and what are all its purpose's? I was reading the Yoshi pipe thread about the sparky failing and discoloring the label on the pipe. Arent you not suppose to even have the sparky on?(if you have the cherryb) Im lost. And im buying a DMC full system here before too long. Do I need to have my sparky in even while running the cherry or? is the sparky removal only required with the stock exhaust and cherry?

please help my lack of knowledge! Parker

That is not a dumb question........

The exhaust system has a head-pipe and a canister (which is referred to as the silencer.)

The spark arrestor's main purpose is "in it's name". To stop sparks from exiting the exhaust. This is why they are required in most public areas.

The performance you gain from removing the spark arrestor is from unrestricting the air-flow.
The one in our pipe is ALSO a bit more of a "silencer" in your reference -- it quiets the exhaust noise do to the smaller exit hole in addition to the HUGE spark arrestor. Both of those together --- VERY restrictive.

A lot of aftermarket pipes have a small screen type sparky -- that is not REAL restrictive.

That was a design problem that Yoshi had. I saw a post where one guy had totally burnt up his sparky and discolored the logo plate. To my knowledge, first generation owners are getting a new spark arrestor.

That's a question I can't really answer without "testing" - I would contact DMC to make sure. I would say yes you should be fine. Not sure how familiar you are with what the CRBM does ---- mainly, switches to the on-board fuel injection "race" map. I would imagine they built the pipe to work with that race map and not the stock map.

sure... but then you have to have a PIM (or similar) for another map, then a programmer to alter it.

Just like HMF --- they are selling a device similar to the CRBM -- it does the same EXACT thing -- Changes to the on board "race map" . They also are selling a PIM type -- they call the Optimizer -- But it is made by Doebeck-- who is just "re-packaging" theirs for several companies.

It ALL depends on how many future mods you are going to do and how deep your pockets are.
If all you are going to do is run a pipe -- use the CRBM --- you should be fine.

PARKER --- Curious to know why you want to run the DMC ????
