Okay for all you racers out there I want to know how you get yourself in "Race Ready" shape prior to an upcoming race? Explain some of the training or disciplines you put yourself through to get yourself in the best possible shape. Looking for some tips on eating, (Energy) exercise habits, how long until you start training prior to your races, etc. so that you can share with the rest of the good folks on here.

Actually all i do is sit around like a couch potato and never do anything.
WEll here's what i really they do
I try to ride as much as possible and maybe run the same track and do a few practice moto's. Drink alot of powerade, gatorade, water, some fruit juices and stay away from pop. And last try to stay in shape and do some stretches.

Its also important not to smoke any weed the day of the race. And back off heavy prescription drugs that day too.

depends on what type of race -- mx or xc?

Drink water, enudurance traiing such as riding ( slow down, pace yourself and ride more laps), biking, swiming, etc (I stay away from running, to hard on your knees).... take in a lot of protein while training then switch to carbs and fiber in the days leading up to a race.

Seat time is the number one skill sharperner, and endurance enducer bar none.

Off the quad you want to build your body like a Pyramid. Running and Cycling, are two Key things to do to get yourself in shape for long motos.

You need to condition your heart to be like a two stroke opposed to a Diesel. Being on the track anywhere from 8-15 minutes at near Max heart rate. You are more similar to a Sprinter than a Distance runner. Short Intense workouts no longer than an hour will be most beneficial.

If are going to be weight traning, muscle fitness is the key, not muscle mass. You want to focus on reps no less than 20, and a lighter weight. Body weight exercises are usually good. It is sort of nature's natural bulk limiter. The stronger you become the easier it is to lift your body wieght, so you can do more reps which will prohibit bulk, while still gaining strength.

As far as eating. Just eat sensibly, and if you dont eat alot of fruits and vegetables, get a suplement. I don't eat hardly any vegetables because I hate them. So I take a powder suplement with OJ every morning, and I feel that I gain a good 10% energy Increase.

The night before a race, eat sensibly, stay away from Sat. fats, and simple sugars. (candy, Soda, etc.) If its going to be a cooker, try to hammer down about a half gallon of water 5:00 Pm until you go to bed. Stretch out, hit the hay with no less than 7 hours of sleep. In the AM grab some outmeal, a Banana or two, and keep sipping the water.

If you are going to drink gatorade mix it with water 50/50, because it has too much sugar in it.

I could go on for hours, but.... http://www.racerxvt.com

..and thats all I have to say about that.

A lot of special ops guys are in to CROSSFIT. :puke: Very short intense workouts.. They are designed to crush the worlds best.. I was big in to powerlifting, but Crossfit is MUCH more applicable to work AND riding!

After 11 years in the Army and about a million different workouts I think that it covers everything the best..

Very similar to what I am doing now. (played Ice Hockey for over 23 years, big time cardio) Thanks for taking the time to explain and answer, and yes I believe the seat time part is crucial. I hate running also, I'm back on my mountain bike again. I'm always looking for additional tips for training like the gatorade mix. I'll look into the website you provided also at racerxvt. Man that crossfit training also looks intense!
