depends on your riding experience.... if youve ridden sport quads for a few years you should be ok... but if youve been on 4x4s or havent really ridden before, id try a raptor 350 or 300ex first to get used to the clutch and the feel of a sport quad.. how old are you by the way? if you want a less powerful LTR you could always get a yellow one... (inside joke)

From what I can gather, it sounds as if a Z400 would be a better choice for you. Its quick and with a pipe, filter, jet kit can be made very quick. Its a good trail bike with manageable power and reverse, the white ones look just as good as an LTR in my opinion. Not to mention its narrower to fit in tight places, and has more ground clearance. Find someone who has a Z400 and ride it. I dont think youll be disappointed. The Z400 is a good platform for making a good trail bike or a good track bike.

yah if your riding something like a blaster you would probably not want a 450 because its like ten times faster its so amazing how fast you accelerate on the 450 im used to riding my 300ex and its like night and day its so awsome i want one too..

I agree with quad racer. If you want something just a little more user friendly the z400 is the way to go. I have 3 of them and they are simply a great machine. :D

And Quad? I would rent you a room BUT...I filled them all up with toys :p

I think if he has a blaster and knows how to work the clutch he should be fine. Its like a street bike, I went from an old CB400 to a FZR600 sportbike, you just have to be responsible to ride within your abiliities. Nobody forces you to ride like a bat out of hell. Plus why buy something he will outgrow in a year or two. Just my two cents, but sometimes I have to admit there is a little gremlin in my quad who will pulls the throttle cable all the way out and gets me in trouble sometimes.

Bubba, with your age, weight, and experience I would say you are primed and ready for the LTR. IMO I would like to see you ride it without modding it (performance wise) for a while just to get used to the added power. Yes, this means not even adding the $40 cherry bomb until you can master the performance of the LTR stock.

Now, with that being said, will the LTR "fit" on the trails you are riding on? If so then I think you have a match made in heaven...the LTR is very stable due to its width and length, the FI creates a smooth power band, and the excellent suspension can "bail" you out of several rider errors...

My son went from the Blaster to the Cannondale to the LTR. Both the bigger quads were much safer for him riding MX. The LTR front end stays down pretty good. Joe never gets the front wheels very far off the ground even on holeshots unless he is trying to get the front end up. If you rode the crap out of your Blaster and singed a few pistons you should be ok.

He should be fine! I started riding quads at age 12 and my first quad was a 2002 Trail Blazer 250, at 13 i got the 2004 YFZ450 and could ride it fine, now i just got the LTR450 in Early March and i can easily handle it. As long as you are responsible and mature, you will do fine. GET THE YELLOW ONE!!!!!!!!!!!! the white gets mistaken for a YFZ and it doesn't stand out, plus WHITE means you can't find the right color.

I just purchased the LTR after riding a 250 utility for 10 years. At first i was'nt sure if it was the right choice for me (250 vs 450), but with its wide and low profile it handles great and will compensate for little mistakes where the narrower and taller Z400 wont. Dont get me wrong, this quad will throw you like any other if abused but it's all on you. I hardly get mine out of third gear as fast as it is, but in the sand that extra power is great. If you are a responsible rider and know your limits your dad may see that and get it for you. To "dad"... it's a great quad and what you get for the money is well worth it. All the upgrades it comes with makes it really easy to ride. Yes it has allot of power, but only if you use it. If your son is a responsible rider it will be a good choice considering his size. At 15 he is a big boy so he wont outgrow this bike yet he will grow into it. Good Luck!!

It is by far the most stable quad on the market due to the wheel base and height.. I would say that out of all the stock quads on the market, the LTR is probably the hardest to tip.. I think, power aside it is probably the safest quad out there (because of its stability), especially in the 400+ class. Not to mention that it handles the power great!

Just my $.02

I have rode on plenty of trails on my ltr and have never had a problem with it being to wide. the only problem i have had is that it has a low ground clearance at the rear but with a good skidplate and 20 inch tires you should be fine. your friends just don't want you to get an ltr because you will smoke them. (get the white one it's faster lol)
