Hey everyone...gotta a rookie question. When pulling the plastics off of the past two bikes I have had I seem to always break or bend (beyond repair) the plastic snaps that hold the plastic on. Is their a trick to doing this without doing damage to the plastic pins? I am referring to the ones that hold the tank cover and front fender plastic on.

Thanks,

J Dub

Yes....be careful.

The last time I pulled mine out -- I stepped on one -- they do not support 180lbs. :p

There are two types ---
one with a notch -- the trick there is to use a small flathead screwdriver -- pop it up a little on oneside, then from the other.
The other has the "pin" in the middle -- You can push down on the middle with the tip of a screw driver and then lift out.
I personally work from the back if I can... just using your finger...push the pin towards the top--then pop it out.

Your dealer should have those in stock. I bought 2 recently it was like....$1.50

Good Luck

just be patient dont force anything, use a flat head and take your time.

If you cant take your plastic apart without breaking some thing you should not be working on it.

you can put a rubber grommet on it to give you leverage w/o scratching/damaging the plastic as well as some electrical tape on the tip. there are speical tools made for poping clips, like 5 or 10 bucks at a napa or elsewhere.
