my ltr starts up great when its cold, but after i ride it for awhile when its good and hot i try to restart it again and it keeps on sounding like its hitting the wrong stroke or something. I have to use the pull down lever( fast idle) or whatever you call it, to get the bike started again. I know that the valves clearances could effect this, but i was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem??? any feed back is appreciated.

ummmm.. I thought that was normal for this bike. Hard start when hott. But if not I need to get it checked out..ASAP.

Mine is harder to start when hot aswell. If you pull down the fuel enrichment lever then start it she fires right up. All the 450's seem to be a bit touchy starting when hot, I think its normal.

Yeah i noticed that on mine too, when i stalled it or when it was hot it would cough for a few seconds then quit and then i used the throttle enricher and it worked fine. I wish Suzuki could make it work like my YFZ, because most of the time my YFZ450 would start in the blink of an eye. Even when it would be hot it would start very fast.

well, i'm glad i'm not the only one with this problem. but it sucks that where having the problem to start with. its weird because a buddy of mine has the same bike, set up the same way, we ride very similar, but his bike doesn't have the hard starting issue when its hot. i don't understand that. I still wonder if its the difference in the valve lash. anyway, thanks for the feed back to everyone. other than the hard starting, this bike is really bad ass!!!

Its normal, mine does it as well. In the owners manual it says when doing a cold start do not give any throttle. It also says when trying to start the atv after the engine is warm, to give 1/8th throttle, which is about the same as the fast idle gives it. I'm pretty sure its normal, but yes, its a pain in the a$$.

I've never had this problem, if anything a slight rap on the throttle and it starts straight up.

This applies more to between rides.

Just to ask a stupid question, but do you let the fan run after the ride?

My fan never came on during a ride only after. I would stop, let it sit for about 5 seconds and turn key back on and thumb switch to run and only then it would come on and run for a minute or two, I've never had a problem starting it.

Just a query as nobody has mentioned this.

Like quadracer said, all you have to do is give it 1/8 throttle. That will act like the hot start on all the kick start 4 strokes! Once you learn how to role on the throttle ever so slightly it will start when its hot no prob...
