Recently bought some Douglas aluminum bead-locks. Only problem is one of the rears is powder-coated black. I've read that Permatex Gasket Remover in an aerosol can will remove it. But i don't want to ruin the aluminium surface so i can polish it like the others. Has anyone had any experience with this or any other bright ideas or suggestions? Ideally id like to remove it chemically as opposed to sandblasting it so i can be sure to get into the nooks and cranny's?? Lets hear them ideas! :fing02:

IMO,, Permatex will etch the least, and still will make it polish able, minuscule cracks excluded,,,

Do you think it will etch heavily? I've heard that oven cleaner works also but it may be too harsh for aluminium? I will use whatever just don't want it to eat up my wheels or render them un-polishable. have you used that permatex on aluminium before. And any ideas on re-polishing them, i was thinking steel wool and compound? :albert:

theirs not much options here, Oven cleaner (back in the day ) would do just fine but now Permitex gasket removal is just about the same,,

also eastwood powder company has this stuff out you soak the rims in it and the take it out rubb the rims under cold water and will come right off.. forget the name it

Another suggestion is get some aircraft stripper. You can get in aerosol can spray on and rinse off. We use it at work all the time. No etching of the aluminum.
