Hi there,

Simple question, My buddy and i received our bikes on the same day. He opted for a different break in technique. dont know if this has any bearing on it? He took it easy for 3 hours, then changed the oil. So far so good for me, i got on and warmed it up, and took her to town.

He has called me saying his bike is blowing blue smoke and drinking more oil than petrol. It is in the workshop, and they are looking at the rings or piston that have might have failed (3 months). Will let you know what the final verdict is when they operate.

Anyone else heard of a LTR breaking rings or piston?

This would be the first case I've heard of for topend problems...seems everyone has done the motoman procedure and it seems to work great.

Keep us updated

I used my own way of breaking it in and my quad works fine.

No News yet, will keep you guys updated.

Junkie, same here, guys dont want to believe me when i tell them to follow the motoman way, then they must do it the best way they think. Tired of hearing: But the manual says...... <_<

I myself had not come across a thread indicating that someone has blown their top ( refering to the bike of course) so stay tuned boys and girls of all shapes and sizes...

This just in:

User error..........I had a one on one with the guy, seems to have forgotten to tighten the 2 bolts onder the engine properly after a service? Got distracted while working, came back, got on a day later and rode, and during the ride the bolts came out, oil drained, rings burnt, expensive

Anyway, he has to pay, no fault of the bike's.

I listened to motoman, hard acceleration, hard deceleration and changed the oil after about 20 miles (took my GPS with me :B).

It did exactly what he said it would do, puff a little smoke, once the rings were sealed it would stop. He was right! shows no signs of smoke or oil needing to be topped off!
