I was wondering if anyone has any information about the Winchester or Florence sections of the Oregon Dunes. I have ridden at the Coos Bay section several time and was hoping someone could tell me how the other areas compare. Thanks.

I can give you some insite to both areas. I've been riding on the Oregon dunes for a little over 20 years now and have to say my favorite place to ride is at Windchester Bay. They have the biggest dunes I have ever seen! A lot of steep hole shots and a lot of longer BIG dunes. There is also a ton of razor backs (smaller dunes with a steep drop off on one side) so you really need to check the area out first before you really "get it on." Just about every time I go down there I see someone getting injured from flying off a dune they didn't see (not the greatest place to bring the young ones). The riding area is quite big and the place is never over crowded, except sometimes during Dunefest (theres a reason why Dunefest is at Windchester and not Florence). As far as Florence is concerned, the riding area is just as big or maybe even a little bigger but the dunes are quite a bit smaller. The place is kind of like a smaller Coos Bay (the dunes are very similar...just a smaller riding area). There are a few bigger dunes but nothing like what you'll find at Windchester. Its a lot more flat and open and definately a better place to bring the family. There isn't too many good hole shots or real challenges so if your looking for a challenge I would recommend Windchester. If you looking for some casual riding possibly with the family, then Florence is where I would head. For myself, I went to Windchester close to 20 times last year and went to Florence only once. That should speak volumes. I hope that helps you out.
