After a long debate ...... and a poll that REALLY did not help. I am going to Ceramic coat my header and mid pipe with Regular ceramic coating so it will look like chrome. Then i am going to Black Ceramic coat my canister. Then a couple chrome DASA stickers.

This will be on my personal pipe. I am using the origainal JET-HOT for ceramic coating. They are more money then the others, but i have had good luck with them. It will cost me about $150.00 to do the complete pipe.

Steve,

Will this in any way increase heat to the motor. The reason I ask is that while trying to figure out the RPM hookup on my LTR last night the FI light kept blinking 2 times per sec which means the coolant got too hot. I'm really not too concerned because it was sitting still and I was reving to 7k several times. I also plan on putting in Engine Ice in the near future. Actually I already have it but haven't had the chance to put it in.

Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Great question ..... i have no clue? I is a thermal barrier. I am guessing it disipates the heat better? Also my bike does get hot just sitting. Once riding it is better. I am getting a PWR radiator once they are available.

The reason why they claim it lowers temps and increases hp(didn't look, but I'd guess that they would claim that) is because it actually keeps the heat in. Sounding crazy, but just stick with me a second.

Cooler air right next to the pipe cools off the pipe some. The cooler pipe will actually create resistance to the flow of exhaust. Temperature differences cause resistance. You have to imagine this in layers. The center of the exhaust flows the best with resistance to flow being at the outside of the inners of the pipe.

With the coating, it provides a barrier to the cooler air outside. This helps keep the heat in the pipe and cool air off the outside of the pipe. This in turn reduces resistance to the flow of exhaust. More HP b/c there is less resistance to exhaust flow and the hot exhaust is now easy to get out of the motor.

I spoke with some of the people that do ceramic coating as well as the local racers that use it (stock car). Horsepower is like 1% increase at higher engine temps and they didnt recommend the black because it can flake off.

Good to know. JET-HOT said their black is rated at a higher temp then the standard ceramic and is EVEN more durable. Wont flake.

Canister
JET-HOT 2000™ - Formulated for very high temperatures, this rugged coating protects substrates up to 2,450°F, heat levels sometimes encountered in Rodding and Off-Road applications. Available in black, blue or grey.

Header
JET-HOT 1300™ - Our exclusive formula works beautifully on new or used parts at temperatures up to 1,300°F. Sterling™ is our most popular finish, this high-luster coating, containing silver powder, shares the brilliance of chrome with the subtlety of nickel. It provides the most brilliant appearance in high-temp, high-tech coatings while delivering major performance advantages. Sterling™ is also an extremely easy coating to keep clean. The same basic formula is available in matte black, blue and cast-iron gray.

Yeah I guess I forgot to mention that the increase in HP won't be noticeable on the bike(dyno MAYBE) and the temp difference on the motor might be noticed by a lazer therometer. It will all be nearly a non noticeable amount.... pretty much, you just better like the black look :p

I know on a car if the engine is painted black you get more hp. Because it dissipates heat better then other colors. The ceramic coating not only looks cool but it helps underhood temps stay down because it keeps the heat inside the headers. Your exhaust is gonna look sweet.
