If you watch the news you know that they set one off underground yesterday. How do you feel about this whole situation.

"Unconfirmed" nuke. :p It was a 4.0 on the rictor scale which means it could have been aprox. 1000 pounds of TNT...

And to think I was changing MOS's to become a NBC because I didn't want to get deployed... well I hear Korea is nice in the spring.

Ready to go when ever they send up the red star cluster. Think the Koreans are in a stinky situation. Not just toying with the US policy but with the UN, NATO, Britian...etc. Would be a hellacious war with them. They have more artillery peices pointed down range then our entire force stationed in S. Korea

Atleast even their allies agree it's wrong. Iran is the only one not vocally condeming it and they don't have the balls to follow Korea into war. I think we could even talk the french into this scuffle. :p

Obviously I think it's wrong but I rather not go to war with them while we still are in Iraq.

My buddy just served 2 years without coming home in korea, now he is in Germany incharge of part of the interrogations.

TOKYO (Reuters) -
North Korea appeared to have conducted another nuclear test, Japanese broadcaster NHK said on Wednesday, a day after China joined other powers calling for a tough response to the communist state's announcement of a first.

Japanese government sources had information that there was a tremor in North Korea and they were checking on the possibility of a nuclear test, NHK said.

A South Korean Geoscience official said there were no immediate signs of seismic activity across the border.

Defying warnings from its neighbors, the United States and the
U.N. Security Council, North Korea announced on Monday that it had conducted its first-ever nuclear test.

Pyongyang said a U.S. "threat of nuclear war and sanctions" had forced its hand.

Anything they launch should be shot down fairly quick. We have literally spent BILLIONS on air defense.

Offically since I'm in the Army I get to say I don't care, point and shoot is all I really need to know...

BUT I don't see it happening. I think this is a play by N Korea to get aid and money and to be taken seriously. They have been sort of looked at as a 3rd world country forever and this may be a way of stepping up.

Pyoyoungyangwhatever may be crazy but I don't think he is stupid.

We have many ways of shooting down missiles. Anti-ballistic Missiles (the Arrow) are one of our prime means of defeating even long range missiles. The only issue so far is a multiplle warhead attack or a suprise attack. If we know its coming we can get it down safely. If they launch, alla stealth, then we will just have to see. As of yet, I do not believe they have full capabilities for launching an assault on CONUS. OCONUS or overseas post, ports and stations will have to be on the ball however.

I think Japan is the one who needs to keep their eye's open.

Possibly, but remember they have 7th fleet and 3rd Marines right there. Plus all the Army BS in SK. I think primary target will be US strategic capabilities in the AO.

Isnt Japan thinkin about having some military power again?

There's also the whole sanctions issue...putting up trading barriers will obviously cause the already suffering people of N. Korea to have access to even fewer goods. Lack of resources sends people running for the border, and areas like China cannot afford any refugees. Despite this luckily, China has shown strict disapproval for N. Korea's actions even though they are strong allies
