Here are some pics of the stress on my frame. I am a mx rider and caught a dirt wall with my left front tire (standing in front of quad) while i was roosting arond it. my tires were turned all the way to the left (standing in front of quad) when i cauglt the dirt wall. It hit pretty decent. but I've hit stuff harder with my Z400 and not had any probs. After this I had a tight spot in my steering. As if I had a bent tie rod. After removing and inspecting my tie rods. I discovered they were perfect. I had stress marks by the bottom steering stem holder. I took it back out an took a couple slow laps. After those laps my tight spot disapeared. I've rode it for about a month since. I think this could be a problem. I check mine after every ride. Please don't turn this out of hand. just warning you about a possible problem.

Here is my post from the "other" thread

I briefly skimmed this topic. This is my OPINION.

I remember him saying.... "how could an A-arm hit hurt the stem?"
That is quite possible....... without "much impact"..... the force on the a-arm -- which is connected to the spindle.... could move the tie-rod.... which is connected to the stem... it won't go sideways... the stem is thick and solid... the leverage would cause it to go "up" and bend or weaken the stem stop.

If you have ever taken out a stem and left the tie-rods connected and moved the wheels -- you know what I am talking about.

No one is going to give you grief on this post because you posted what you believe to have caused the problem.

I'd be curious also to see if the stem is bent/tweaked.

I wondered the same thing about the stabilizer. I'll get some pics tonight or tomorrow of the stops.

I wonder if you had a steering dampener, that it would have still done it. Know what I mean?

hmmmm? :smiley_1poke:

IF.... it was caused from my "theory" --- A steering damp or stab would have made no difference.
The pressure came from the bottom with vertical force.

Have you looked at the FUELATV stems? I know if mine gets bent that's what I'm going with.

He makes them what ever length you want.

I took a look at the under side of the stops an there is just a speck of rust. not enough to post a picture of because you probly can't see it anyway. So the spot in the picture is the only place there really is a potential problem for me.
