After cleaning our quads on Sunday afternoon I noticed that Da_Zukikids new LT-R450 Suzuki had a couple areas on the Lower Stem mount that were missing some paint which is usualy an indication of something Flexxing and or Cracking.

Low and behold the lower stem mount is doing both ( Flexxing and Cracking ), this could result in a serious "Safety Issue" if not caught and fixxed. The Stopps on the Stem could very well get lodged in behind the Stopps on the frame causing the bike remain in a turned position and putting you the rider and the bike into a situation where hititng something like a tree or flipping it over could result in a serious injury or even death!!!

I advise everyone that has a LT-R to inspect this area and let anyone you know that ownes one to do the same.

Da_Zukikid's bike has maybe 20 hours of aggressive trail riding on it at the most, no big jumps or anything out of the ordinary, this is clearly an issues that Suzuki needs to fix. We took the bike up to our dealership last night and had it inspected and left soem pictures of the damge with them to show to Suzuki, We will keep you informed on what pans out with them But my guess is they are going to replace the frame.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

This thread will be moved to the Suzuki Forum later, it is placed here because the Lounge gets more traffic.

Yeah but if you look back further in suzuki kids posts he did a nice endo into a tree. There's nothing wrong with the stems. He just smacked it hard enough to crack it when he endoed it.

NORMALZ from a few of the other boards researched it and found his post about hitting the tree.

No way that damage happened under normal riding. After you crash ANY quad you are likely to find that kind of stuff. Buy a brand new YFZ to race and you better gusset the frame because it won't hold up to MX otherwise. Don't worry about the Suzuki. This is the one and only report of this kind of damage. Any quad is going to have unusual damage from a hard impact landing on something other than the wheels!

LMAO, dont be so fast to jump to conclusions guys. The tree that was tagged was a small sapling and was tagged at low speed and the quad climbed the tree and left NO damage not even a scratch in the paint on the A-Arm just tore the soft saplings skin off.

Da_Zukikid is a Frame and Body guy and has been for about 15 years not to mention he is a Super anal meticulous guy that keeps his stuff spottless and we always hand wash and inspect our bikes after EVERY ride so this damage popping up a month after the tree incodent is is in no way related.

If you pay attention to the photos you will see the cracks that are forming are from the Frame Stop being pushed Up and Forward by the Stem Stops.

Pretty simple stuff here boys, like I said on ATVTech.net "Maybe this is an iceolated case and maybe Doug is just a Beast on the Bars" who knows.

You should all check your bikes and be SURE you have no issues, Suzuki made a good bike for sure, I am Honda man but I love the LTR, they just need to Fiore who ever designs their frames ;) .

Here si the link tot eh Tree collision.

Take it for whats its worth BUT make sure you check your bikes, I do not want to see anyone get hurt :( .

Good thread...I'd say we need to more or less take this as a:

"It's NO-WHERE near 100% certain, but hell I'll keep an eye on that area for my and others safety JUST IN CASE, because shit like this can happen"

Yes, he flipped - even the smallest accident can cause matured stress, but WHO CARES. Let's just all check this over (like everything else) before we hop behind the bars. No harm done...

simple physics people, your going forward and you come to a sudden stop with the force of the stop going somewhere else on the quad other than the brakes which are "designed" to stop the quad will cause all kinds of damage.....in any case just check the stem, it should be routine for you veteran riders and good practice for you new guys anyways

I'm with blue_eyed_ltr-450racer... It may not be my place, but i don't see what the big deal is... Someone just gave us a heads up on something... If nothing else, just take it as if you were to maybe make a slight front end collision with your A-Arm....... Just check it out... No big deal... I just say thanks for the info... And check my bike out... Just my humble .02 cents

Bottom Line ....... THIS IS IN NO WAY, SHAPE , OR FORM A DEFECT. Is it something everyone should check out? YES no question. Could this damage have been done by the crash ....... NO QUESTION IT COULD HAVE. Did this happen from the crash who knows. I have seen way more damage from alot less impact. As said above angle , force .... ect. ect. have everything to do with damage from impact. This is good info, but nothing to go crazy over.
