Light Weight Flywheel??

Just wondering if anyone is using a light weight flywheel for the LT-R450? I know a few buddies of mine with Honda's are using them, but was not sure if Suzuki has them yet.

you can usually send your flywheeler to a machine shop and have them take off about 8 ounces. make sure its a good machinist because the tolerance level is about .001... anything over that and it wont be pretty.
Curious on why you want to take weight off of it?

Ever ridden a CRF ign. Honda?
Never ridden a CRF without a Honda ignition! You?
Sorry about that. I was talking about a TRX with the CRF dirtbike ign. Raises rev limit to 11200 and the flywheel is considerably lighter. It has its perks but some major downfall as well.
just kiddin, Morgan.
I knew what you were saying.
Have ridden 2-strokes with lightened flywheels, and yes they lose all flywheel "gyroscope effect" or whatever, blah, blah, blah.
Some racers actually add weight to flywheels for a more torquey type, smoother power transition. Like for slippery T-T's, you get less wheel(tire) spin, better hook-up. At least on 2-strokes. Then you come into the 4-stroke engine and the torque type power it has and well thats a diff. story.
Quads almost need the type of weight the flywheels have just cause' of their overall weight.
Would it be better just to have a different ignition curve and the higher peak rpm? That the bike c.d.i has??? Instead of the lightened flywheel?
Probably depends on the type of riding you do. Woods, Hills, Sand, and what ever else.
Then again what about the hybrid's out there with the CRF or YZF engines and all, those have all the bike parts on them, c.d.i., stator, flywheel, carb.???
I own a 05 450r with crf ignition and love it. I honestly cant find a downfall with it at all. now I dont know if I would want to put a lighter flywheel in the ltr cause it seems to be pretty good the way it is, but for the Honda it was definately the setup to go with!

This is what I was waiting for. In the dirt, where the CRF ign. will blow off the tires, its one of the best mods you can do. Get that same bike in the sand, and it takes WAY to much inertia out of the motor, and the bike wont leave.

My hill bike with the CRF ign. hits right now. But it wont leave for shit. I have to leave in 1st every time, and thats with a 13/40.

Rotational mass is your friend. Especially in a bike that compensates for the loss of throttle response, that being the EFI in an LTR.

As you know, these bikes will leave hard. I run more tire on my LTR then I do my Honda hill bike. As well as MUCH taller gearing. Start taking weight out of the motor and it wont leave near as hard.

"gyroscope effect",LOL silly me! yes inertia is what I was looking for, good one Morgan.
