OH POO on you! If I had a nickle for everytime I heard K&N is better, I could pay off my student loans! Sure they breathe better, but why? Less restriction people. Less restriction equals bigger holes. Bigger Holes result in more stuff flowing through the intake and into the throttle bodies! Bah Humbug! FOAM is for real men K&N is for wannabees!!!!
...Just a lil humor, but food for thought as well!

For the people that actually WANT power...theres K&N. My engine blows through anything, sand, dirt, whatever you can throw. The stuff that gets through the K&N is so tiny it wouldnt even affect your engine. it just gets combusted and spit out. K&N also looks better, who wants a colored sponge in thier airbox? :p

False...

If you take a high performance motor and run it at low rpm's without ever getting on the throttle carbon builds up. Same effect...that carbon that builds up isn't noticeable for hours and hours from the outside but over-time that TINY residues BUILDS UP. We've had so many blown motors come through here in the last year, I'd be willing to bet I could guess what kind of air filter is run on it by carb and intake condition. Run a controlled lab experiment, those particles aren't so small ;)

But instead of referencing a poll from a bunch of yahoos, why don't we get a new poll started from ground zero on here and see what our members really prefer :D

Haha it's all in good fun. But I will take you up on that offer, :)

not saying any filter is bad, but for the price of a K&N airfilter, specialty products needed to clean it and filter cover, i could buy atleast 3 or 4 foam filters.

Here's a little trick for you guys who want to run your own test. I used to do this when I raced Porsche's. Take a little dab of grease and put it on the wall of your intake just past your filter...run the engine for a bit...then take a look at the particulate matter that gets caught.

Food for thought...if you guys want I'll start a post and see what the results are :D

The reason why the K&N flows better is because of more surface area not because of bigger holes. What do you think is going to let bigger particles through, open cell foam or cotton gauze with a layer of oil on it? As far as blown top ends, there are too many variables to blame just a filter. How often was the filter cleaned? Did it ever come loose? Was it mounted properly? How often was the oil changed? See where I am going with this. I prefer the K&N, others prefer the Foam type. I think it boils down to whatever the person first used on a bike/quad, what their buddies use, or whatever is cheaper.

Most RACERS like K&N's --- Most MECHANICS don't.

I am going to have to disagree with whoever said that the dirt just gets thrown out of your motor.. I changed my oil after every race day and cleaned my filter also in my honda 250r.. it ran on 93 octane and I ran the K&N after doing a winter rebuild on the cylinder walls you could see a shade of diffrent colors and my motor builder told me that I didnt change my filter enough after telling him I did after every run he asked me if I was running a K&N and I told him yes.. That was when he laughed at me.. To make a long story short...I only run foam filters now
B)

You guys are killing me with this, its like asking what it the best oil to use!!! I'm going to say in my best Cartman voice "Screw you guys!!!" and come up with my own filter system. Now if I can just figure out how to fit the little Ionic Breeze in my Air Box!

Its like a little maid in your airbox :D ....
