What up every one. I am looking in to buying and air intake for my ltr. But I was wondering if I should go with a foam or k&n type filter or even what brand air intake system is the best. Do they make an interchangeable type system were I could run either foam or k&n. any suggestion would be great. Later

Ltr...most of us agree that the Trinity with the K&N is the best manufactured set-up...very nice...I like mine :D

I do believe that you could use a foam on it if you should change your mind at a later date...

Just my $.02

First.....What type of terrain do you ride most. Is it dusty ?
If it is very dusty I would HIGHLY recommend a foam filter.

The slight flow increase the K&N has over a GOOD 2 layer foam is NOT worth the potential of engine problems.
ANY experienced dirt mechanic will tell you that.

i have the trinity intake.the billet piece that comes with it is the best design IMO.i do not however run the kandn filter very often.it is puny.not alot of surface area on it at all.i run the prodesign foam filter with the trinity billet piece and cannot feel the difference.i also use a trx 250r uni filter the majority of the time and it performs much better than either of these two filters.definite seat of the pants difference.BUT it is a pain in the arse to get installed properly!!!!the opening in it is quite a bit larger than the 3.5'' billet piece and is very difficult to get clamped down.it will seal but you have to be extremely careful it is on all the way around.once its clamped it is fine.definetly not a drop in filter.you have to do some airbox mods too.like removing the stock mount in the back of the airbox.i also heated my airbox and formed the rear of it out further.

i have a uni filter on order... i might try other ones at a later time because I tend to buy air filters every now and then so i have a bunch of them to switch out just in case. Ive heard good things about Uni filters for every quad tho. I would most def not put a K&N on mine though.

Rode in desert for years with a K&N with a pre filter and no problems ever. I do put a layer of grease on the inside of my intake just as a little extra precaution. I change the oil after every race or ten hours of riding and you should see some discoloration in your oil and that just means the oil is doing its job, and not your filter failing you. I like foam filters also but just prefer the paper. But use the pre filter as it is very important in sand.

I use foam. I think it stops more dirt. It all comes down to how often you clean it. If you neglect it, either one will pass dirt. Clean it often and neither one will pass dirt.

Keep in mind most people like to run an outerwear pre filter wrap in addition to the k&n....why??? You know why...... and at that rate, whos now getting more air, the k&n or the foam?

Another thing that should be addressed is how the person oils it. I have a buddy who just cant seem to oil his filter right. Its usually overkill or not enough in some spots. The oil is what stops the dirt. Too much kills air flow and clogs up the intake track.

I also think a k&n breaks down more than a foam filter in time. Foam keeps its shape/pores. The K&N starts to seperate the fibers down the road. K&N's are also ALOT more money to purchase.

This is my opinion. This topic is like asking people what their favorite color is, you will get several differnt answers and everyone feels their doing the right thing or they wouldnt be using it :)

I think everything I had to say was already said...for me? K&N all the way...

The only issue that starts more people talking is Sand Tires....or White vs. Yellslow... :p
