I know it might be hard to tell from the picture but does it look off to anyone or is it just me? also would this cause it to be harder to start when hot and stall? i took the valve cover off to check the valve clearance.

I cant tell with the gasket installed. also. are you on the T or the line next to the T on the crank?

It should be hard to start all the time. and possibly stall. there are 2 marks on each cam gear. one facing up and one at the head surface. the pic in the manual shows it very well.

You are also supposed to be at the T line....not the actual T

Pin count is right..looks like the exhaust is forward though..but shouldnt be because the count is right..

To me it looks like the T on the flywheel might have been turned slightly. Like said above take a pic with the gasket off. But the number of pins between marks looks correct at 15.

i set mine on the "T" and it ran like crap. wouldn't idle, hard to start, etc...

set it to the "|" mark and it ran perfect.

I think the cams are synced, but you may not be on the line on the crank. if you are on the line on the crank, Id say both cams are off 1 tooth.

106 hours on the meter its also been rebuilt i'm not sure how long ago. sorry haven't taken a pic yet had a long day at work then had plans after ill get them on here soon but i was looking through the service manual and like joshz400 said the number of pins in between the timing marks is correct.


I think you guys are right, i believe the person who timed the motor used the "T" and not the line next to it.
