How do you get the holeshot? Any tips?
Were do you sit: front, middle or back of the seat?
How much throttle: half, 3/4 or full?

I do all my racing either in sand drags or hill shots. I weigh around 200 lbs and have tried so many different ways but I can't seem to figure out what works best. So let me know what works for you.

In MX I do ass back, body leaning foward, throttle pinned bouncing the rev limiter, dump the clutch and BAMMMM, off we go. If the nose starts to climb I never let off the gas, just slide your body foward.

I personally dont like bouncing it off the rev limiter because if you drop the clutch while its in the middle of the down side of the limit then you just got a launch at a lower rpm then if you were to hold it steady. Another thing if your in the dunes you want your tires to turn as fast as possible when you first take off so get up as far on the gas tank as you can. Once that initial launch has been made then slide your butt all the way back. If your in the dirt start like cudda said with butt back and body leaning forward.

The moment you drop the clutch obviously you should pin the throttle, but dont completely let the lever outa your hand, In some cases if the bike doesnt have enough power to loop it then thats all you have to worry about but if the front end comes up more then a couple inches if you still have your fingers on the clutch you can pull it in a little to control it rather then closing the throttle any.

Sorry about the long post, but i love drag racing up the hills and the sand draggs. There's not to many things im good at but drag racing and launching I will say i do pretty good.

i've done it both ways, clutch / no clutch. I dont think there is a huge difference between them except the wear on the clutch. I always started up on the seat, head over the bars in second but i have never sand dragged, only MX bikes, not quads. the best thing you can do on starts is practice practice practice and get a real feel about where your bike/quad responds to your weight/skill level. I used to practice starts from 30 min to an hour a day.

how this helps

Well i havent thought about holeshots, it comes natural. i've taken $15,000 TRx's in to the first corner and continue to do so with a stock quad.

I thought you would want to be on the back of the seat for traction. Your tires spinning fast in the same spot does'nt sound like it would help at all. Guess thats one thing I was doing wrong. Sounds like my next trips is going to be spent practicing starts.

what tires are you running?

tire and gear combo really make a difference on how you launch. Greasy tires on 10" rims are best launched with less revvs. Where a 21" tire on an 8" rim really needs to be blown off the line at full throttle or you'll bog.

You'll have to find the sweet spot for your setup.

Tire pressure is a big deal too.

you're biggest problem is going to be that 10" rim. Since you like drag racing and hill shooting more than anything. I'd say go to a 21x12x8 6 or 7 paddle hauler or 6 paddle brat..... the other guys on here also like the 9 paddle gliders for glamis. But I'd definately stick to a 21x12x8 configuration for 80%+ drag racing.

I'd probably even drop back to the 36t rear. With the Dasa and supporting mods.... you really should gear up and see what the result is.

I've recently even went back to the 14t front.

Thanks wht180 for the info. I'm definetly switching back to the 14 up front because it is easier to change than the rear. I'm also getting some 6 paddle extremes with 8" wheels. I will hopefully get better at starts because the quad has more than enough power and I can usually start to track others down but I always get blown off the line. Thats my fault though not the quads.

Keep the tips coming, the more I have to work with the better.

I sit on the tank at the gates.... rev her up where you can tell shes likin it.... then you just dump the clutch and give her hell when the gate starts droppin..... when you leave the gate then you lean back...you lean back before then youre gonna have one big wheelie

I tried the 2nd gear start with the 13/38 setup and I was bogging to much. I even sat on the gas tank trying to keep from getting traction so the wheels could spin a little more.
It might work well if I weighed only 150 or so. It may have worked also if I had a better tire setup. I'll have to give it a try once I have better paddles.

dune: get really up on the gas tank and start in 2nd for a lot of traction on sand u want as much traction as possible to get ur self going, then once u hit 3rd get back on the seat as far as u can go and try to get as parralel with the quad as possible, so ur stomic is like on the seat and ur head right by the bars... so u creat as less drag ass possible, and u do not need to use the clutch , or u can use it and just not let go of the gas...

mx: sit far , far back on the seat so ur buts on the end, and lean a little bit forward not so much because ur not going that far, start in 2nd and keep the rpm's high, and when they say go or w/e just dump the clutch and go, u might pull a wheelie but it wont hurt anything it'll come back down
