hey guys, sorry if this isnt the appropriate thread, but as some of you know, I got my Pro Armor nerfs on now. and its a struggle to get my foot under the lever to shift up, (a problem I cant be having when Im riding hard) a quick and easy solution is just loosing the slack on my nets, but thats not an option, Im a really picky guy, where they are now is where they will stay, thats where its comfortable for me.

so anyways. I think I need to set the standard position of my lever a little higher(if possible)?? im at school right now, so i cant check to see if this is a how-to-do in my manual. if its not , how do i go about doing this?

thanks, Parker

1.first remove the front sprocket cover and case saver. (2) 8mm bolts. (pay attention to the orientation of the case saver so you know how it goes back on when its time to put the cover back.
2.remove pinch bolt from shifter 10mm bolt. (note: you must completely remove the bolt from the shifter. the shaft is notched and the shifter will not slide off the shaft unless the bolt is completely removed.) Its easiest to hold the shifter down (like your shifting into first) then use a socket/ratchet from underneath the swingarm. You can do it with a wrench but it'll take a while as there isn't much room.
3. Slide the shifter off the shaft and move up one spline. (if you move it up more than one you won't be able to use a socket to tighten the pinch bolt, you'll see why when your doing it.)
4. Put pinch bolt back in and tighten.
5. Now you MUST cut the front sprocket cover or else the shifter will hit the cover and not allow you to upshift correctly. You can either just cut a notch or cut the bottom portion off along the lowest line (which is what i did. looks much cleaner.) you'll see the line i'm talking about when you look at the cover.
6. re-install cover. (make sure you install the case saver in the same orientation as it came off.)
7. start that bish up and let r rip.

Hope this helps.

thanks ALOT rc! :D me and my step dad will tackle this tonight! btw, has many of you had to do this? for which ever reasons.

I have raised mine up one notch on every quad I have owned. Feels more comfortable to me with MX boots on. This is the first time I have had to modify anything to do it. BUT... actually I like the way it looks cut. It also helps keep the mud and junk from sticking in there.

good luck

yup, i cut mine exactly the same. I actually read it on hear before i did it. I think it may have been you who had posted it. :D also i just cut mine with an old hacksaw i had laying around. It was like 1am when i was doing it and didn't want to power up the band saw or dremel and wake up the family.

I went 2 notches and used a belt sander to carve a nice smooth notch...

when i first got the quad, i used my street shoes to ride around and the shifter position felt perfect. once i put my mx boots on it was a pain in the ass getting my foot under it to shift, so i cut my plate and raised it 2 notches. i was kinda bummed about having to hack a piece off the quad so fast, but it does look a lot cleaner

If you replace the hex head bolt with a allen head cap screw you can move he shifter more than 2 teeth and still tighten it up good and tight with a t-handle allen wrench. dont forget the "blue" loctite.[/b]

Where can I get said allen head cap screw, what size..

thanks!
