Well guys I need your advice, I'm in the market for buying a GPS since I'm doing a lot more traveling lately. I want one for under a grand. I want the one that will be the most accurate on directions. I have borrowed GPSs from friends and I wasn't to impressed with them because they took me way out of the way or just plain sent me down dead end rds, one way rds, etc. So tell me what one and why if you can. Thanks.

I recomend the Garmin brand. We use those alot in Baja and they are very good. You'll notice on some of the older software though that some roads are not accurate. You can down load map upgrades for most GPS. It also has features that let you search for restuarants, hotels, and strip clubs.

I checked their web site and didn't see his, it was $400 about 3 years ago.

I would recommend a Garmin too - you'll get a pretty good one for a $1000.
Make sure it has a color screen and a good memory card for uploading maps
Youll have to decide if you want a handheld one or not ?

Some you can get upgraded...more thorough info. -- detailed secondary road maps --- topo maps -- trail maps. As for memory...some systems use a basic US hwy and secondary roads --- some use regions.
If you are going to stay in the same region....I think your money and memory would be better spent on one with detailed regional info. --- you can always download another region if you are traveling out of the area.

I have the Nissan system in my Titan -- it's ok. I also have an Earthmate system for my Lap-top..it's pretty sweet.

Answer these questions for yourself ---
What's my budget ?
What will I use it for -- most of the time ?
What features are most important to me ?

Good Luck

Made by Delorme. It's cheap. Under $200. Of course, you have to use a lap-top...can be a pain in the a$$ sometimes.
But -- it's cool. Fully programmable for directions, you can do searches while driving --- which is a big benefit. My truck has to be stopped -- a safety feature that I should try to disengage.
That reminds me ... I need to get an update for that.
