Help! Fuel Filter Issue!

1439 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  MOTO-GHOST
Hi, My name is Derek and i've experianced problems with bogging on the upslopes up jumps. I found on the site here that this could be caused by the fuel filter. So i ordered one from Cernics along with a shop manual because they have tons of useful information. It came a few days later and I installed the filter with the instructions from the shop manual. The old filter looked pretty dirty. I put it backed together and fired it up. It ran better than ever for about 2-3 minutes. After that it backfired and stalled. Now it wont even idle. I cannot figure out what went wrong! Does anyone have any advice or similar problems?
Thank you,
Derek

Not sure but do a search on the tip over switch. Sounds alot like what the others were experiencing.
I gonna post this in the general section but I thought I would run a search just in case someone else posted this info...

When we were at the dyno on Sunday with FuelATV's bike...it was running good...so we put it on the dyno and pulled the plastics to get to the programmer...and the thing started running like hell...fuel light came on dimmly at first then bright so we thought it was low on gas. Filled it up...still ran like hell...so we started back tracking the whole harness...

Come to find out the Black/Red wire in the ignition switch...into the plug about 6" after the switch itself?...the wire & connector into that little black plug had come just loose enough to cause all kinds of crap. We don't know how since Steve had never unplugged it there and tugged on those wires...but it was loose...

Weird huh?....In checking around we have found that this is not an isolated incident...

so check your wires boys...if your experiencing anything to do with your bike running poorly and you can't find anything else?...might try this...

Fix is easy...just cut the connector out and use manual connectors...I'd use "Shrink Wrap" on the connections after your done just to make a good seal...

And before you ask?...NO I did not hit a tree and this is not a recall...

Derek it seems obvious that your not getting enough fuel, if any. Did you turn off the fuel valve and forget to open it back up? I know it sounds like a no brainer but many people forget to do that. Also check to see if your tank is ventilating properly (gas cap).

That does seem kinda odd Junkie. I know I have take my plastic and tank off a few times to check the valves and do some wiring for my tether and have had no probs. Could have been a freak thing.

hope this helps :shithappens:

had the same thing , the vent hose on my tank wasnt breathing too well so changed that , it helped a bit , then did the tip over switch mod , that helped its all fixed now
thing is my bike runs fine at full revs so i would find it hard to believe that its the fuel filter , i would image if the fuel filter is dirty that it wouldnt rev out completely ,
question... how come when the fuel filter is dirty it bogs on the faces of jumps but not on while driving flat out on level ground ?? sorry it confuses me shitloads

Where do I find more info on the Tip over switch Mod? My Quad stalled today once and it kinda puzzled me.
Just wanna rule that, I have had this quad for about 2 months and just the other day it Backfired a few times, Then yesterday it Ran Perfect with no problem, Now today I was just playing around on it for about 15 min or so and while Riding when I went to Shift she just cut out on me, It started right up after that but I was going down a pretty steep hill, Thins thing has me wondering If I shoulf of stayed with Yamaha, I love everythign about this quad but it seems like there are alot of little bugs with it still.

The tip switch isn't a bug though, it has a very valid purpose - streetbikes have the same function :)

Kind of like the auto-kills on lawnmowers...they're annoying but are there for a reason :p
I've checked the fuel valve and it is open. I already have the tip over switch mod done and I've also fixed the ignition key switch short issue so I'm really beginning to run out of things to look for. I checked every wire and hose. I unplugged the battery for like 10 minutes or so to re-set the computer. I might have to bring it in to somewhere. I've never had to do that with something before. LoL. Usually I can figure out what is wrong but not here. LoL Thanks.
I had this prob. a while back, It was the last time I could take it in for warranty. They replaced the fuel filter and entire petcock valve. They didn't give me the whole run down on it, but it was starving for fuel so they replaced the valve. Runs better than ever.
