Wanted to share my screw up to let you know that although living on a tropical island is nice having every single U.S. mainland company refuse to ship regular or priority U.S air mail just sucks.

I ordered parts from a company in Calif. I requested U.S. airmail to Guam which is part of the United States of America and we are all U.S. here except for the asian tourist but they said, along with all the other companies I called to order from, that they only ship UPS. The company-well they were great and sent my order out right away after taking my credit card numbers but sent it UPS so when the truck pulled up and I saw the shipping charges I freaked! I ordered a steering dampner and 2 18x10x8 sx holeshots at a cost of over $600.00 shipped!!!

I'm an idiot and won't ever do that again

I was stationed in alaska for a while and if you ordered anything it was usually about the same price as the item in shipping..... Does that make sense

Yes UPS is getting outrageous! I know the U.S. Mail is cheaper for sure most of the time for like 2 day priority, even regular ground. We have been getting parts here for the shop from Cali. and the shipper uses DHL and they claim its cheaper than UPS. Instead of being 4-5 day ground with UPS to us, we have gotten most things in 2 days from Cali.!!! I don't know how but, we also got 1 package here the next day from DHL and it was from L.A. area Cali.!!! I checked the label twice to see if it was from a closer warehouse and it said shippers address was from Ontario, Cali., cause' I thought maybe they were sending stuff from a mid-west warehouse or something. Unless they are, and just putting a label on it from original company in Cali, who knows,LOL!!! Will ask DHL driver when they scan next package in here where exactly did this originate.
DHL and Fed-Ex are supposedly cheaper on the smaller packages, and UPS has better prices on larger stuff.
I know for sure the U.S Mail is cheapest for most small to mid-size packages.
my $.02,
Rad.

You need to check with the place you are ordering from, before you place the order. But you definetly got hosed. $600.00 sounds very expensive even for UPS. You should check with the site sponsors. I know we ship Post office about 3 days a week. Most places don't want to deal with it because you have to go stand in line, but its worth it if you ask me.

Agreed with Cernics..... ANY company you order from -- ASK for your preferred shipping method -- ASK for a QUOTE before shipping -- If it is too high... tell them... a lot of companies add "handling" fees which they can discount or cut out. Also.. it's much more expensive to add insurance.

I work for Ultimix. We have packages going out ALL around the Globe daily. We charge our customers EXACTLY what the carrier charges us. I can tell you --- since the rise in gas prices --- we have seen several increases in shipping charges. On top of that --- UPS and Fed Ex have started adding additional "fuel surcharges". Most packages are 50-70% more than what they were 2 years ago.

ATVGUAM..... You need to build a relationship with 1 or 2 part guys. People that you can trust to get you what you need and ship on your preferred method. Avoid the "BIG" companies -- because you are just # to them. Give one of the site sponsors a shot. Saving $10 on an order doesn't help if you end up paying out your A$$ in shipping.

I was stationed in Italy a couple years ago. 1st, are you using APO/FPO addresses? These will be your cheapest shipping methods as they are government contracted to more big companies. 2nd, if that doesnt work. I would have your family (home of record) hook you up with what you need state side and send it out that way. Again lil cheeper.

Yes fuel surcharges for sure! So doesn't the post office have the same fuel rates? Sounds kinda' governmental fishy to me <_<

thanks for all your replies they all have good advice. The tires and dampner came up to about and around $300. and the shipping was just over $300. not $600. for just shipping. My impatience both on the phone and for the parts is what cost me. Thanks again for all the advice I will be sure to use it from this point on......as soon as my wife trusts me again with the credit cards-LOL

Hey DHL is blowing the DOORS off of UPS right now with our service from L.A.,Cali. to Upper-Mich.!!!
It's usually 2 days WITH ground service somehow??? Don't know what they are up to?
I know for damn sure UPS ground takes at least 4 days usually 5 from L.A.,Cali.!!! AND the shipper is getting better rates because they ship so much stuff out everyday!!!
Again, just my $.02, not quite sure WHAT to make of all that???
Put that in your BROWN truck and race it,LMAO!!!
