I know some of you fellers have had to take your quads. But how smooth did your your trip go. My dealer looked confused about the repair and broke out the yellow pages to find a certified welder. I wasn't exactly impressed.

I would NEVER go to my dealer to have a frame welded. Luckily, I can do it myself. I'm surprised they even need to be welded. I thought Suzuki put in a little more R+D than that. I wonder what else is going to break?
First tranny problems and now frames cracking....I don't know, maybe I should reconsider my decision to buy one.
What does everyone think?

The tranny problem, i myself don't have it and i have not heard of any tranny failures as a result if it, so not really concerned in that area and as for the cracking frame, my dealer is repairing that as we speak. I am a coded welder myself so when i do get my bike back, i will be inspecting the weld and taking pics so if it breaks i will have the proof of a crappy weld job and then i should still get my complimentary new frame which is what i would prefer. Remember, work the dealer does, they are liable for. If you were to do it yourself or get someone else to do it and it broke, they would probably tell you to get stuffed.
Besides it is a warranty job and probably best arranged by the dealer to get it fixed and maintain your warranty.

The tranny issue as far as I'm concerned isn't an issue. I just changed my oil to 20w50 suzuki and never heard another whine again. I'm not upset about the weld job because they are fixing it for free. What I'm upset about is my dealer looking like idiots because they don't even know a certified welder. I'd hate to get Joe Schmo to weld her, but like he said it's still covered and I'll just get a shiny new frame.

Hell, Mine called two welders in and they wouldn't touch it. He called in a 3rd yesterday. I was shocked. Of course maybe the other two didn't have TIG or MIG welders. Anyway I have to give him a call today to see if it got welded yesterday.

My dealer basically said, sorry about the problem, we'll fix it, or just get you a new frame. The only issue is, I will have to wait a bit. I can handle that.

They are backing up the issue as best they can. Of course they send out for welding. This is what will take the extra few days.

Now, the tranny issue...does affect me. I get it when riding hard. We still don't know what it is, and this is the first I read about tranny failure. Post more if you know of something official.

I left it in another thread, but this might be something everyone should know. I had my wife call my dealer about the recall yesterday while I was asleep (third shift) and had her ask how long it would take to do the recall work on my LTR450. They told her the ?clutch covers? would be in next week and I could bring it in and get it back probably same day. She asked them twice if that was for the LTR450 and they said yes. I don't know if the dealer knows something we don't or he just made up some bullshit to tell a "woman", but I will dig into it today. If that is legitimate info, then that may have something to do with the whining tranny. I myself have never heard it, but not all bikes are made exactly the same, no matter how hard they try. After talking with the dealer, I will repost what they tell me.

What kind of certified welder doesn't have a TIG  ?

I have to agree with hotfishez though...yes, generally dealer welding is GARBAGE; but generally they will try to throw it back in your face if you weld it yourself and it still manages to break somehow.

EXACTLY! Of course I do live in Robeson County North Carolina so that sort of explains it. They were supposed to have the welder drop by today at lunch to weld it. I have my fingers crossed. My only concern now is that I stopped by at lunch and they still haven't done any prep work for the welder. I really hope they don't weld it with the ECU/electrical still hooked up because they could fry the ECU. <_<

My dealership said it would take over a month. They are the only one around here and they know that so they are taking their time. I am just welding it myself!

Most people are getting the tranny noise and that is all it is. Most people are changing to a different oil or adding a bit more and loosing the noise, I run a 10-40 non synthetic and dont have it.
Correct me if im wrong but there have not been any tranny failures as a direct result of the noise that I am aware of so until such time, we should refrain from calling it a tranny failure, shit my brakes squeak and thats not a brake failure!

Correct - no tranny failures from the noise. 99% are going away

About the clutch cover thing is there any update in that case at all? Definitely willing to bank on either a miscommunication or the dealer being confused on what exactly it is they are suppose to fix. Most dealers are so far out in left field...uggh, you get where I'm going with this.

I have the 06 LTR and 3 LTZ/KFX400's and yes..it is a clutch cover recall on the LTZ's...NOT the LTR's. So yea...different circus...same clowns :(

And no...I haven't had the patience to work though either of those recalls...

Guess I'll start on it Monday and let you know what I find out :(

Yeah, when I called the dealer this morning, I was fully prepared to cuss his monkey ass for lying to my wife, but he apologized before I could. He said it was the LTZ not the LTR. As for the tranny noise, he said Suzuki is telling them to add more oil and the noise will go away. I don't know if that is official or not, but that's what he said.

Has anyone who has a recalled ltr450 looked at the top front shock brackets where the bolt goes through the bracket? When I looked at mine it also has washers that are only half way welded around it I no this is not part of the recall, but does it need to be welded also so its stronger up front? If someone has one of the ones with out the recall could you look and see if Suzuki started welding the front also all the way around? Thanks sorry for asking questions in your post I tried making my own post but never really got a answer. I quess I could go by the dealer and look at the new ones but Ive had no time.

Does anyone know when the frame recall has to be taken in. I got my paper the other day but I dont wanna take it in right now we are in the middle of a point series here and like many other dealers around mine takes forever to do any warrenty or recall work. but i was wondering if it is something that you can just do when it brakes and not worry bout it till then???

I doubt the front shock mounts need welding. They cop no where near as much force as the rear.

As for the recall, Suzuki are obliged to repair it. It is a fault they have recognised and accepted liability for it.
I don't think there would be a time frame that you have to get it fixed in, but in all fairness to Suzuki I would say take it in as soon as you can get it in, make prior arrangements to have the work done in minimal time.
If you don't, it's your own safety at risk!

Just called my dealer Beaverton Honda Yamaha. They are a pretty big outfit and are trying to line up 3 to 4 LTR's at a time and have them ready to go for their welder who they say they have been working with for three years. They told me the turn around time is a week. I feel safer taking it down now they have a routine going, just didn't want the welder practicing on my bike, lol.
