Dyno Accuracy

If all dynos have different readings, how can you really tell which one is accurate?

Great question ..... First what do you mean by accurate? You cannot compair from one dyno to another or what some people call dyno racing. Everydyno reads different. All of our dyno runs were done on the same bike and same dyno. All conditions were duplicated to the best of the operators ability. What are you looking to find out? A dyno is for testing and tunning IMO. Just because it make the most HP on a dyno really means nothing exept on that dyno on that day. You take all of the info you can, Build it as fast as you can, line it up and ride your azzz off.

Just wondering, thanks for the reply.
Just add my .02 here. I was previously in the sport compact scene (Acura RSX-S to be exact) and I always laughed at people in the forum who were bragging that their car with certain mods made 206 whp or 210whp.

These same stupid people never did a baseline run on the dyno. When you go to dyno after you've added all your mods and you're not doing A/F tuning, what's the point? The number is totally meaningless. You have no idea if your mods have added any hp over stock (besides the old butt dyno reading).

So that being said, all dyno's read differently. A dyno is meant to show gains and tuning, not just give you hp number. First establish your baseline and then do your mods. Do another run and see how much you've increased. Most importantly, do it on the same dyno, with the same weather conditions with the SAME OPERATOR. A different operator can affect the results.

Most dyno's will be accurate unto themselves. Meaning that they will read the same number from the same machine every time. If you do the dyno this way, you'll get your accurate results. You'll see the % increase from YOUR mods on YOUR machine and you'll be able to see dips in power and A/F ratios and adjust accordingly.

This is what dyno's are meant for.

Nice bike by the way. I like the nerfs. Where'd you get 'em?

Thanks AJW. I got them directly from Blingstar.
I agree with what Fuel said, the dyno is mostly for testing and tuning. Because on the track the quad will never make that horsepower reading, or go that fast. Also the true dyno reading is far off the power on the track, When u dyno, the quad is weight less or it's not moving, then add the quad's weight to the engine when it is racing and persons weight. Every dyno makes the quad act like it's 0 lbs because the quad is stationary then u add 368 lbs onto it. The quad will not go as fast.

I'm probaly not accurate at all but Dyno's don't tell me anything, give me what the quad gets with dirt and real weight.

One site I used to be on a group used to base thier superiority on a dyno where the guys would drive 3 hours away from thier house because it read high so they could brag they are the "Dyno Kings" and getting over 50 hp. then they said they are the best becasue of it. It just made me laugh. I just go by getting a good AFR and racing results. Tends to show how much a quad really has.

And after talking to a dyno guy that lives by here, its all in the Dyno's operator to show the HP numbers if they want it to read high it just takes a little bit of changes in the setup to get it to read high.
