Drum roll please...............................

FINALLY, I HAVE A CAM.

It only took a few months but the person to come through on the money was Dan Crower or Crower Power perfomance camshafts. The guy was always in touch, informative and accurate on all his time frames. Extremly nice to talk to.

This intake can only, is what i will start with and in time we shall see what and if we want to do an exhaust cam. Right now this intake is where the power will come in from so thats what i will start with. I ended up going with the higher lift, less duratin G1 grind that should help the motor everywhere. Emphisis will be slighted towards the bottom end where the 4 stroke naturally wants to make its power anyway. I hate lazy bottom end motors. Shootin hills, coming out of corners and riding in low to mid is where most will ride. I dont like to overev my 4 strokes so ill see how this cam does.

Here are some pics of this metal motor candy :D

I used to only use Crower Race cams in a race car I used to run, I think they are the best. I didnt know they made ATV/Moto cams tho.

Nice cam Gary. Now we'll we get to hear a ride report from you now. :smiley_1poke: I think you have owned that quad for about 8 months now and I'm not sure if you ever started it. :p

Just messing with you buddy. I can't wait to hear how your new baby will scream and of course see the dyno numbers. You might have the strongest running R450 out there to date. I'm expecting about 59 HP from you on this one. Great Job!!!

Any updates i will certainly share.

Gary the only bad thing is I wish you had a pre Crower cam dyno for comparison purposes...see how the factory cam really stacks up.

If you dyno the Crower on a DJ you can email me the run files and I can overlay them on my dyno run files...at least get some idea of how the power changed.

Ahh, actually that will not work at all...you have porting/piston/and cam now so the runs will be completely off...argh.

So does Crower have Billet cams in stock or just cores to exchange?

They do have billets that are available but they need your stock cam sprocket or sprockets depending on what you do. Im sure it wont be long before someone makes those sprockets for the LTR and you wont need your stock ones.

Couple hours ago i got my LTR going for the first time since i purchased it. No ride time at all.

Just a recap,

Venom port, KBR/CP 13.75 stock sized 450cc piston.

Crower intake only cam

LRD full exhaust

1/2 the air box removed :D

Power Commander tuner setup for this build (supposibly) I might add that it sure does feel close to spot on....

Electric start seems to crank it over no problem. It fires right up, idles perfect, and not a single wierd noise coming from the motor. The LRD exhaust sounds so perfect to me.....not loud at all but has that sweet glass pack sound off a v8!

It has rediculous throttle response with a a very broad power delivery. Mostly midrange with strong bottom and a good rev out. Its not obsurd fast or anything like that but it feels really fun to ride. We'll see what the dyno says. Im more interested in the tuning part on the dyno more than the numbers. Its not going to pull 60 horses ill tell you that. Id pound my chest if i see 55-56. Mayby try some different pipes while im there....

I thought this maight make for an interesting little topic.....

Here is a pic of a side by side set of cams on my LTR. The one to the left is the Crower cam and the one to the right is the stock cam. Notice the lobe thickness diffence. The crower one is 1/3 smaller.

I wonder if thats better or not better? I have two ways of looking at it.

A wider lobe produces more contact, thus more friction, thus more heat but has a lower stress load because its spread more across the wider area.

A thinner lobe has less surface area and i would think that causes more stress on the lobe and the follower.

Any thoughts on this anyone?

Just found this posted by Crower on a new LTR site:

QUOTE

The cam gears are differen't pitch and diameter from the rmz to the ltr. we have been swapping the stock gears onto the new billets...the .381 " lift / 241 duration rmz cams are a little better than the .338" lift / 232 duration ltr int. cam....they still need more duration in our testing and thats why the G1 cam is .396" lift and 250 duration ...

Great job Gary. :D I think Crower designed the smaller lobe width is to reduce valvetrain friction thus increasing engine speed. I'm not convinced that it will cause more stress on the lobe and the follower.
