When I disengage the clutch (pull back the lever) I notice the clutch grabs a little and can feel the gears turning. It doesn't roll as easily as when in neutral. I know that in cars when the clutch is disengaged it has no friction with the flywheel allowing it to move freely. I have adjusted the clutch both ways and its the same feel. The LTR is my first quad so I have no experience with these smaller motors. Is this normal in a quad/dirt bike?

Thanks

btw im using a non aditive 10w-40 oil for the break in (motoman), since im only on my third oil change. since using synthetic isnt an option yet, will that most likely fix the problem? if there is a problem.

There's an adjustment at the top of the clutch cable, between the lever and cable. Sitting on the quad, turn it towards you to make the clutch looser (meaning you have to let the lever out more before it grabs) or turn it away from you to make it tighter (meaning it the clutch grabs sooner when releasing the lever)

I know this.

I adjust the fine adjustment (a the handlebar) as well as in the cable leading to the stem (normal adjustment). what im saying is that the quad still holds a little no matter how much I adjust it, is this normal? does holding in the clutch never feel as free as it does when its in neutral?

I think its normal. With every quad I've ever owned I would put it on a stand and let it idle in 1st gear while I lubed the chain, and when I went to pull the clutch in, the tires would slow down, but still spin. The wouldnt stop until I put it in neutral.

True...with the clutch completely pulled in, it is still not completely free. If there is no weight against the tires (such as the ground), they will continue to spin on a properly adjusted machine even with the clutch all the way in. What you are describing is completely natural :)

If you wish to push the machine while in gear with clutch in and it doesn't seem to move as free, try pulling in the clutch and releasing a few times while rocking the quad back and forth. Sometimes it will get it to loosen up enough to notice when pushing.
