Cherry Red Headpipe

Picked up my ltr on Thursday and I love it!!! However the last two days I was riding at night and the head pipe constantly glows red, it varies slightly from the head to the bend and sometimes almost all the way back to the heat shield. During the day I can't tell but the pipe sure does get hella hot, just like at night!!! I've had many other wheelers b4 and never had this problem, my z400 pipe was never this hot!!! Could it be b/c the engine is still being broken in or is it possibly a lean/rich condition and running way hot?? Any quick things I should check?? I'm a little worried and I'm supposed to go on a day trip w/ the R tommorow!!

Thanks...

Looks about normal...
ya im pretty sure its normal cuz i think every body on this site has had glowing head pipes and i no my friends yfz does the same
Hmmm...interesting. I searched and couldn't find much of anything, so I figured maybe it was out of the ordinary....mine looks the same as the pics posted above!! What is this caused from, just excess heat???

im pretty sure ..........race quads rev high and there will be more heat produced............if u really want 2 see it glow ride it hard at night 4 a while and it will glow like crazy
yea...and then touch your tongue to it and see if it sticks... :p
I just noticed this today as well, so I figured I would do a search on here to see if it is normal. Well at least you dont need to buy neon lights for under the plastic... :D
I noticed it to be worse at idle. If you notice it, hit the throttle a couple of times and it will go away a bit. We used to have to do that on the CRF hybrids...
from what ive been told. Now-a-days they make the head pipes out of so little material and it gets so hot that they just glow. My friends' 250F hybrids all do it to.

It depends. I havent' measured the thickness of the metal but if it's thinner then it will get hotter quicker and turn red.

At least that's my theory.
