I know some folks are already saying.... "Dude its obvious"

yes but how obvious?

On friday and saturday at LS Oklahoma the sand was real dry and almost dusty. Traction was real bad and so the true test was on....

I felt like I was the only white LTR on the sand those two days.
My bike as follows:
stock pipe no sparky, cbrm, 400ex K&N, 21x12x8 6 paddle Sand Tires Unlimited Padla Brat on blue labels, and 21x7x10 Skat Trak Mohawks on blue labels (HUGE Thanks to Rob again for the tires!!!!!!

Vs....

Many Yellow LTR's with Dasa, Yosh, Nmotion pipes, both with fuel controlers or cbrms. Running anything from ITP's to 21x12x8 7 paddle haulers on blue labels.

Brats FTW (for the win) almost every time. In the dry soft stuff the brats would litterally pull any other LTR's out there either by one or two bike lengths every time depending on how well they started. The first two nights The White LTR was the bike to beat :fro:

The only time I got beat by other LTR's (with pipes) was on a down hill track (yes that was some back asswards okie stuff right there) and when the sand was wet and then the skat traks really took off.... But... they would only beat me by 1/2 to 1 bike when we would both get good starts.

Now I repeat.... My bike is still on the stock pipe, cbrm, and a 400ex air filter. All the bikes I raced had pipes

Alan, Okc LTR was probably my biggest comp all weekend ....... after he bolted on the 7 paddle haulers. Especially when they hooked up in the wet sand and on the down hill.

I posted the wheel weights in the sticky in this forum.

I didn't do a roll out test like before..... I can do that tomorrow when I strip down the bike to clean it up.

Oh and as far as gearing goes with the brats..... all stock gearing is the ticket ;)

Thanks again Rob!!! we'll see you this weekend. I'll be ordering my set here pretty soon.

so on a budget, I'd suggest a 7 paddle hauler.... the more budget you have... I'd work my way to a double or triple buff.

Or if you're trying to decide between a pipe or tires... I'd get a set of Brats They're $50 cheaper and you'll beat the piped guys anyway.

Chassis before power :p

Yes I was there and I saw it all.....very quick on those tires!! I just wish I would have tried them out on my bike!! Oh and thanks so much to rich for helping me remove my sparky...Also thanks for the call Clone for helping too.....My bike got quicker w/o the sparky.....Just need to tune it on a Dyno now to get a bit quicker!!
I want to try putting my stock 14 tooth back on my primary and putting a set of Brats on to see what happens!!

The Brats are fast no question. I think that their weight plays a BIG part in that. This is GOOD info no question, but there needs to be a controlled test. I would also like to see the 9 cup glidders and 6 cup haulers added to this test. When it cools down out here i am going ot put together some kind of controlled test. IMO 7 cups are still too much paddle and will only benefit on the hole shot, but once you get into 3rd gear game over the tires with less paddles seem to take over.

Having ridden both places I agree completely and disagree too! On the hills at Glamis and the longer runs 100% agreement...at LS with the short flat races of 300' there is not enough time to make up the distance where the lesser paddled tire shines...add a hill to it and the lesser paddled tire's benefits are multiplied.

While running the Brats on the Honda I would really be catching people just when the race was ending...give me another 100' and I think I could have beat many folks beating me...

LS sand is pretty unique and the hole shot really seems to play a big factor in such a short flat race...

Good stuff Rich...did Alan ever try the Brats? How did you think the Brats duned?

That is what i mean ...... more paddles will usually get a little better start, but half track the 9 cup glidders and 6 cup haulers reel them in and make the pass. I am very anxious to get a good controlled test done. I think where you ride and sand conditions will come into play no question.

i'm a little confused here  it seems that when these talks about which paddle is the best in drags, hillclimbs it's been said that the molded tires are always the worst because they take h.p. and there heavy which is where the skat-traks are winners because there so light. why are these brats so much better when from what i've seen on there sight aren't they a molded tire? and for hillclimbs and overall duneing it seems they wouldn't be as good. so far i still think the tire that generally is good at everything (duneing, drags, hills) is the sandstar :)

ahhh yes Duning, and trail riding....

Brats again FTW. The brats have a full 4ply sidewall which is pretty stiff and slides a lil easier and it also doesn't give as much of the bouncy feel that I get from 8" skat traks.

And the Mohawks were also pretty good on the dunes and in the trails when changing directions quickly. They didn't carve as hard as the sand star fronts but you could definately feel how light the steering was. I made a pretty long hard speed run through the trails and the tire combo listed above did extremely well for a "drag setup".
