I gonna post this in the general section but I thought I would run a search just in case someone else posted this info...you mods can move it later if you would like...

When we were at the dyno on Sunday with FuelATV's bike...it was running good...so we put it on the dyno and pulled the plastics to get to the programmer...and the thing started running like hell...fuel light came on dimmly at first then bright so we thought it was low on gas. Filled it up...still ran like hell...so we started back tracking the whole harness...

Come to find out the Black/Red wire in the ignition switch...into the plug about 6" after the switch itself?...the wire & connector into that little black plug had come just loose enough to cause all kinds of crap. We don't know how since Steve had never unplugged it there and tugged on those wires...but it was loose...

Weird huh?....In checking around we have found that this is not an isolated incident...

so check your wires boys...if your experiencing anything to do with your bike running poorly and you can't find anything else?...might try this...

Fix is easy...just cut the connector out and use manual connectors...I'd use "Shrink Wrap" on the connections after your done just to make a good seal...

And before you ask?...NO I did not hit a tree and this is not a recall... :lol:

I cut out the plug since ....... YES ..... YOU GUESSED IT ...... the ket switch is on national back order. Once the plug is cut and hard wired you will neet to reroute the wires over the frame instead of under as they will be too short. It came out SANO and works perfect.

I had the same thing happen to me... I was in a race when it happened to me... I felt it sputtering in practice so I thought it was the filter... Then, I saw a twist in my fuel line from when I had the tank off the other day so I straightened that up... I thought I was ready to go... I was about 4 laps into the race running 3rd and it died on the face of the last jump on the track... I finally figured the same thing out the other day when I tore the bike down... I just cut mine and used bullet connectors so I can unhook it if needed...

Here's the pics...

First the culprit...the harness...under the key switch...
[attachmentid=2104]

[attachmentid=2105]

You need to reroute the harness under the frame here...
[attachmentid=2106]

You will need to pry up this connector though...
[attachmentid=2107]

And there ya go... :D

I had problems in this same area, but it was because of the flimsy fender brackets. I caught a fender on some blackberries leaving the track (not on purpose and at a fair rate of speed) and bent the bracket on the keyswitch side. I thought "no harm" and bent it back. It actually stretched the wiring harness and pulled one of the wires from the back side of plug. Had to pull this out re-insert the wire and refasten. I probably should have done this mod instead, but have had no problems since. Next time I have reason to remove the keyswitch, I will do this.

I LOVE THIS SITE. The same exact problem happened with my bike. I just started looking up why my bikes running like sheet and found this. So I went out to the garage and pull her off. Seems like my red and black wire was also out a little bit. I think I am going to use ceramic bullet connectors for mine incase I need to take it off for some reason. I just hope this was my problem. but same Diagnoses. sputtering up to the face of jumps. Landing hard. all those.. Thanks Junkster

Do I have to take the fender off to do this?
I was in a race and the bike would start to sputter at low RPM.
Could this be the answer?

Could be...thats what ours was doing...and no you do not have to pull the fender...just some dikes and wire crimpers & 3 butt conectors...good to go...

Cut the wires and when I did I could see where the wire was shorting out. Quick easy fix. Thanks for the info.
