my dad just bought me some oil for the first oil change on my LTR. I put 5 hours on it and I am now doing the first oil change. Im just wondering if the stuff he got me is going to be alright. I have always heard on here to use a 10W-40 Semi-Synthetic oil, well my dad got me the Bel Ray Thumper, 4 strokeracing motor oil, 20W50. I am wondering if this will be alright to use. My dad doesnt know anything about quads, so he pretty much just went out and bought anything.
Here is a pic of the exact stuff he bought me, please tell me if this is alright to use.

I know some A riders that use it in their YFZ's and it has been good.

My son Joe rode his LTR at the Proving Grounds Sunday. We live outside St. Louis north of Troy. Racing in Moberly tomorrow night.

well I just took it back to the store and switched it for some 10w40 semi-synthetic belray oil. Im good to go riding this weekend and my first oil change is all ready.

IMO over priced motorcycle oil.

You have to be carefull running any sort of synthetic with your clutches though.

Yeah, synthetic stuff doesn't work good in some machines, I just use Valvoline 4-stroke 10w40. I also use amsoil cause i sponsored by them but i ran out of that stuff and am waiting on my next box.

you guys dont even run semi-synthetic oil? My dealer told me to run semi-synthetic for the first 2 oil changes, then go to full synthetic after that.

in a normal motor i would actually prefer conventional for the break in, then run full synthetic. as for these bikes, im told full synthetic is not a great idea with our clutches so i run semi-synthetic. for my last oil change i opted to go with bel-ray 20w-50, i can get away with that weight because of the beating i put on my quad and the constant high temps it see's (it overheats and blows coolant out all the time) but for warantees sake i wouldnt reccomend that to anyone else unless you race or just all out beat the crap out of your motor like me. without all that heat that oil is going to be a little thicker than preferable.
as for my review on the bel ray oil? it runs very smooth, i actually noticed the difference in how smooth when i changed the oil (could have been the change in weight though). its quite pricey as was stated but i think its worth it if you want a good oil. next oil change im going to give royal purple a go, i prefer thier automotive oil over any other so im hoping thier ATV oil is just as good.
