GMAC TT/MX Race August 19th Press release/summary
The Guam Motorcycle and Atv Corporation held and participated in the third motorcycle and atv TT/MX race of the year this past Saturday night August 19th. The event was held in conjunction with the 2nd annual Jeep Jungleree at the Calvo Memorial Off-Road Park in the village of Yigo located in the western Pacific on the island of Guam and was a GMAC non points race for fun. Racing kicked off at 7pm under the bright stadium lights of the facility with the course being a high speed dirt track with both left and right hand turns to challenge the participants. Racing classes were split into several classes to allow for better racing between participants.
Respective Top Team Riders Do Battle In the Open Atv Division.
In the Open Atv class the two top riders in that class who each were representing different manufacturers and motorcycle/atv shops here on Guam went at each other as if a championship were on the line making for the race of the night to be witnessed. Up at the front and ahead of the rest of the field of the big open atv competitors #1 Robert Santos riding for RPM Yamaha aboard their Yamaha Yfz 450 had a great launch off of the start and was the first to the left hand first turn with Team Cycles Plus rider #2 Rob Bucek on the Suzuki Ltr-450 bumping him in the corner running in second. The atvs put on an exciting race as the lead was being challenged on every lap during the first half of the race. #1 Santos had his rear view mirror full so to speak with #2 Bucek pushing him hard as #2 Bucek probed for a better line on the course to make the pass on #1 Santos for the lead. With #1 Santos and #2 Bucek up front running 1st and 2nd having a thrilling duel for the lead the battles for 3rd on back were as equally exciting as #4 Donavan Pitter (Honda Trx 400) running in third was doing what he could to fend off the challenges of #99 Mark Schiller (Suzuki Ltr 450) and #55 Chris Huff (Yamaha Raptor 700). #99 Shiller was able to move up and take third leaving #4 Pitter alone to battle with #55 Huff. By the mid point of the race #2 Bucek was able to find an outside line down the high speed front straight that gave his Suzuki Ltr 450 the advantage it needed to sling shot itself past the Yamaha of #1 Santos into the lead. Once up front the #2 Bucek on Suzuki partnership were unbeatable as they took the checkers with its sixth consecutive win of the year. #1 Santos aboard the Yamaha took 2nd with #99 Schiller on a Suzuki taking 3rd. #55 Huff managed to make the pass on #4 Pitter on the last lap to finish 4th with #4 Pitter taking 5th .
#2 Bucek qualified first earlier in the day for the Open Atv main event
In the mid atv class the podium was completely taken by the women as #1 Kelly Simpson (Kawasaki) took 1st with #6 Nicole Manibusan (Suzuki) taking 2nd after having to be handicapped at the start of the race. #6 Manibusan who was held at the start for several seconds tore through the high speed course like vet racer rather than as the rookie who is only entered in her third race ever which was fact. #6 Manibusan challenged and almost took the lead from #1 Simpson but ended up spinning out resulting in a 2nd place finish. #8 Rochelle Westfall meanwhile took 3rd aboard a Tano.
The Open Womens Atv class saw #29 Lisa Windham (Suzuki) take her second consecutive win over #35 Raean Einloth who placed 2nd aboard a Kawasaki and #69 Cindy Toves aboard a Yamaha who placed 3rd.
#35 Raean Einloth racing a Kawasaki KFX 400 makes a pass on #69 Yamaha Yfz 450 pilot Cindy Toves for second place.
Mini atv racers battled for the top spot with #4 Jose Simpson on his Kawasaki four wheeler going side by side with #6 Stoney Bucek riding a Suzuki Lt 50.for the win. A mechanical problem stalled Simpson just long enough to give an easy win to #6 Bucek. #4 Simpson did manage to overcome the mechanical problem to take 2nd.
