After taking the LTR out on the first MX ride.

I was very very impressed. My previous bike was a full Walsh TRX. The LTR honestly corners better, and performs better than my TRX.

I was impressed with the suspension, but not totally pleased. They say the LTR offers a wide range of adjustability, which I tend to use fully, until my aftermarket stuff arrives.

The first thing I did was back the front springs way off, and start from there.

On the front, after the first day of riding I settled in with half a turn stiffer on the compression, and half a turn slower on the rebound.

The rear was kicking me all over the place, so I slowed the rebound down a tad, and it helped alot. I still feel the rear had too much spring, so next time I ride, I am going to back the rear spring out some, and go from there.

I am a 190lb A level rider, for refernce.

My goal is to make this thread the go to place where we can share tips on setting up the stock suspension.

SO what tips have you? What have you had the best luck with?

I too took the pleload all the way out and went two turns softer on compression. Haven't messed with the rebound yet. I was pretty satisfied with how the other mods went.

I took all the preload out of the front shocks and set both the compression & the rebound to the middle settings. I left the rear to the factory settings.

Note: I had a TRX450R w/ some major mods. LSR DC-4 long travel front end w/ Elka fully adjustable shocks and Houser swingarm w/ long travel linkage and Elka 17" shock. My LT-R450 Handles just as good the way I have it set-up. I'm still going w/ aftermarket shocks, but only to get the lower ride height for MX.

I'm a B-Class rider & weigh 195#.

I have gone all the way out on front pre-load actually added about a turn on the rear spring to get my sag set right.

front
pre-load back all the way off
compression 2 turns softer than factory
rebound 2 turns faster
rear
added about a turn to the spring preload
compression is factory set
rebound is FAST about 3 turns faster

these are the best i can come up with for The place I practice. it is brutally rough, the whole track is like a Supercross whoop section, which accounts for the faster than usual rebound, so its not really comparable to normal ATV tracks. if you ride a really rough track, try em out

oh yeah

This will sound strange but I stiffed up the front springs by 2 full turns-gave it better jump attitude for some reason. I was getting way crooked in the air from the rutted take offs on our local track. Other than just doing that for now It felt fine at the other settings. Weigh in at 150lbs. race in the pro/exp division locally and few years back in Japan. Track is a jump filled, pretty rutted- SX type course built in the infield of a quarter mile dirt oval stock car track.

As I get comfortable and start moving a little quicker with the new machine I'm sure I will be doing some more adjusting. Need to slap a steering dampner on first.
