Hey, I'm out in Las Vegas right now visiting a friend and we were thinking of going to the dunes and renting some quads since we've never experienced riding the dunes. Just curious if anyone knows about Armagosa Valley... is it good riding? I think Dumont is pretty close too but their prices were a little more I believe. Any opinions or info would be much appreciated.

Oh yes, I remember Armagosa. Something crazy about that place. Went there in Jan 06, and stopped at the little store on the left just before you get there. Glad we did. The gals were cool and just wanted to make sure we keep their playground clean and watch out for witches-eyes (huh) and told us how the dunes could be deceptive. We got there and screamed up the front dune and scared the *&%$*$&#%@*out of myself trying to determine how fast I was really going and where that top really was. I figured it out quickly (because i'm smart) and my buddy jumped the peak (because he's not smart) and all though he landed it, they heared his scream back at vegas. So he went to town because he poped the bead and after he got back he only wiped out once more and hammered his quad. (did i mention he's not smart) All in all I had a blast and cant wait to go there again with a cam-corder...

I am from Beatty which is only 17mi from the Amargosa dunes. I was also out there on Friday. It's some great riding there are some nice big dunes but also some smaller sections around the out side. There are a lot of razor backs though so be careful. There are some nice bowls up in the tops of the dunes. If you have any other questions about the surrounding area just ask or PM me you PH# and I'll be glad to call and help you out. There are plenty of rentals places in Vegas also so you won't have a hard time getting some bikes.

I live in Las Vegas and been there twice. Both times I scared my self so bad I had to wipe my shorts. The first time I was on my LT500R hallin ass up the tall part of the dune at night and went over the razorback(didnt see it till it was to late). Then I stalled it in the air ,oh sh*t no lights! The second time I was on my LTR450 during the day.I was hallin ass again across the face of a step ass hill.Just got back from Sand Mountain in Utah after 2 days of riding. The dunes there you have plenty of shut down area when you come down. The thing is after 2 days riding in big dunes the next day in little dunes I forgot where I was at . Back to hallin ass across the face ,when I came back down that step hill I roosted like there was a nice 200 yard smooth shut down, not. I hit a razor back right on the bottom of the hill and flew 20 or so feet then start pointing down. When I hit my body was laying on the front part of the quad, eyeballs 6 inches away from ground and legs locked in between handlebars and quad.I got lucky,my fried comes up after it happens and was freakin out ,I was ok.He siad look over there and about 10 feet away by where I launched then landed there was a spot with white painted rocks in a circle and flowers.I think we know what that means.I shit you not. After that one I learned to respect the Dunes, my quad or where ever I ride.I think somebody was watching out for me that day,I believe.Ya I been there and thats my experience at Armagosa dunes. That place will trick you ,ride safe.

I was just thinking about Amargosa today...

I'll be up in Vegas this week and I'm debating about bringing up my 450 up to check out Amargosa on Thurs or Fri. I've driven past it before, looks like a great place to ride and the main dune looks nice and big. It is probably a ghost town mid week..hey pokrmony, want to meet up? :D

I'll have to see what the GF has planed but I may run up there by myself. I would only be able to get there friday in the evening, I have class that morning. Let me know what you decide. And your right there will be NOBODY there on Thursday and most the day on Friday. When I lived in Beatty we used to go on Wed. all the time cause we weould be the only ones there and the sand was always perfect.

Well, I'm definetly bringing the quad up with me....but it looks like Thurs is my riding day....so I just have to decide if I'm going to Amargosa or into Utah....right now, leaning towards UT since it is cooler....
