I live and ride at approx 3k feet. The dunes we ride are at approx 6k feet. Question is with full pipe high flow air filter can i cut airbox without running lean? Any info would be great. Thanks Preston.

Isnt it the higher you go - the less fuel you need but I did read somewhere that a guy doing Pikes Peak had trouble with the efi compensating at higher altitudes ?

Wow that's up there! Yep, less fuel will be needed.......

Ken that ran the pikes peak run thought that the bike would adjust for altitude if it got a chance to be turned off then back on, but where he did the climb with the bike running the entire time, it didn't get a chance to "reset" it's settings.

As far as cutting the a/b.... you are kinda out there alone. Anyone can tell you yes, but you need equipment to verify that. Up to you really. Guess you can do it and see how the bike runs

Thanks for the info. We went to the dunes last month, after day three my air filter started to plug and performance dropped a lot. I pulled the plug when we got home, I expected some dark coloring from running fatt. What I found was a plug that looked brand new. What gives? I don't want to lean her out to much but more power would be great. Any more input would be great.P.S. this site ROCKS, thanks Preston.

First off, clean your air filter! :p

I live in Sacramento and do most my riding there. That is about 100 feet elevation. Really nothing. I also head up into Nevada where I ride at about 3000 feet. I was running a CRBM and 2Bro full exhaust and it ran pretty good. I think it actually ran stronger in Nevada. It poped a bit in Sac.

Hmmm... I forgot my point!

With my YFZ I tried rejetting for different elevations but it always seemed that the normal set up I ran in Sac was good for Glamis, Pismo, and Nevada.

Oh! I would would tune for the lower elevation unless you have the ability to get accurate A/F readings for both elevations. Then you could set up 2 different maps.

When I get home I am going to try and find a Dyno in Sacramento and one in Reno to get different maps for the elevations. I want to see how big a difference it really makes.

For carbs you only really need to worry above 4000

This is simply guessing because I don't have any real info on this. I would GUESS that at 6k with your set up you could probably trim the air box. HOWEVER I think you may be very close to lean at 3k. No way to tell though without a Dyno.

If your running a "High Flow" Air filter with all your other mods and no LID, assumation there, you would be lean at sea level.

However I haven't done a set up like that for that elevation. I'm just really talking out my @$$ ;)

I just installed new high flow intake and currently running no lid. I suppose I could trim the air box and if it runs lean at 3k I could run with lid on.Thanks guys.
