I just installed the Mod Quad K&N air kit on my LTR and was wondering if it would be worth any hp to remove the air box completely, leaving the filter exposed? I currently have the air filter, cb, and sparky removed. Also, if i removed the air box all together, do you think i would run into a lean problem. Future plans will be a PIM and a Full Yoshi exhaust.

Corey, yes you will notice a definate improvement by either cutting the top couple of inches off your stock box OR removing it completely...BUT...everyone that has done it so far (I removed it completely :D ) has some kind of fuel management in place to prevent the lean condition. You may want to wait until you get that in place. Hope this helps :D

I took my airbox out and installed a k&n with my own mounting. It ran dangerously lean. I only had the CB. After about a minute the overheat light came on. I had to wrap 4 layers of paper towels around the filter to get it to run. That tells you how much more air is flowing. I went cheap and bought the dobeck just so i could use my intake.

Elf...I'm using the Trinity/Dobeck unit for now...I have a Power Commander sitting on the shelf ready to take down to DASA to have it tuned...I'm just kinda waiting to see how Fuel's bike comes out...I would go with either the Power Commander or the Yoshi set-up. I think the Power Commander may have some more potential "down the line" but that Yoshi FIMAK/PIM set-up is a very fine unit. We got to kinda play with Varmint's bike today at the dunes and I was impressed by the Yoshi "plug and play" features...if you go with a Dobeck type set-up? You will probably be upgrading ...so it might just be a waste of money or a temporary fix...so the name of the game here is to think forward...it will be money well spent...hope this helps...again... :D
