So from reading a few threads this sounds like a must for the sand. Will this help me for draging on the hill, or just all around?? Because I REALLY need to give my banshee riding loudmouth friend a good run for his money!!

If you are getting larger sand tires then you betcha. But if not, its not nesseccarily better.

IMO depends where you ride and how much you weight. For glamis, butter cup I think thats too low (I weight 175) i have +1 in the rear and 6 paddle extremes. Im pretty fast with this set up, I think 13t will slow you down unless your pulling 4th? I go 3rd up hill. also 5th seems ok. havent tried the 13t maybe its better?

I have 20" ITP Sandstars. I weigh 175. I don't know what gear I can pull up the hill because I haven't hit the dunes yet. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. And I live in Gilbert.

I would do the 13t I have it on mine. with 20" 8paddle extremes. it pulls hard. i have beaten a 330r and a 420 banshee. I also have a 385stroker banshee. I have raced both of those bikes on. they are no slouch. but I also have raced more than the 420...my take is. :fro: super cool 13t

I was running 20inch sandstars and the 13 tooth front, needed it for sure. Even with the 13 I couldn't pull in fifth on the flats. But I do weigh 210

If you're going to ride at hasyampa(sp) then just stay with the 14T. But if you go to Glamis, then the 13T might help with the weight of the tires on the big climbs.

I'd still even try a 14T out there and see how it does.

good luck beating a banshee with sand stars on the LTR. If they're on the same tires then you'll have a chance.... maybe.

True ...... but its a 350PV with ALOT of money in it. Bottom line Sand Stars are not the tires to be racing with as they are heavy and have too uch drag. This is the reason you cannot pull 5th hard. install a set of 6 cup haulers and the 14 front. You will pull 5th hard on the flats no question. I do and i weigh about 230

I ran 20" sand stars on my Raptor 660 and never had a problem with them being heavy??? I need to get a set for the new LTR and was wondering why most of you don't like the sandstars?? There's nothing worse than riding in a line of quads behind someone with cup paddles and getting roosted all the time

i don't understand it either  i love the sandstar paddles. i'm a duner and that for me is racing hills, flats and fast bowls etc. ( i chase ls-1 buggys @ dumont :scoot:) i my opinion if all you are doing is drags or hillshooting then run straight blades, but i'm not looking to dominate everything i like being average at all of it :) i also know from my experiance that if your fast at armagosa dunes here your fast most every where because our comp hill is almost 600 ft. high and its somewhere in the neighborhood of 120 to 130 degrees, right before my ltr died i was running wheel to wheel with another guy on an ltr that was 165 lbs. with a yosh, pim, and 8 blade haulers. i thought that was really impresive considering i'm 220 lbs. :)
