Tires for ice

Hey guys, I was wondering? I know that people don't like to give up their setups for racing and I'm NOT looking for anyone's setup. I'm just curious and can't seem to find anywhere how to stud tires for ice. I'm not looking to ice race, just planned on getting the ski conversion and some maxis 4snow tires and studding them to ride around this winter on a trip we go on every year. The only questions I have are; what studs do I use? I don't want to do it the cheap way with the sheet metal screws, I want them to last. Secondly, on the ones that one of you suggest, do you put them on the treads or in between? And lastly, if the studs go all the way through, how do you keep the tire from leaking air? Any/all help welcome and is greatly appreciated in advance.
