Cp piston ring gap

Hey guys, quick question. I'm looking for a little clarification. I have a new athena 100mm big bore kit with a new 13:5 CP piston. According to the Cp chart, my top ring gap should be about .018". I've read other people recommending. 012" to .015" thousandths. Out of the box my top ring measures .012". Any advice on where I should set it at? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
