The 08's are very bad for the third gear issue, just look around the forum and you will see what I mean. I have an 07 and 3rd gear went but they are much less common. If you want to buy the 08 and then pony up the coin for and ATP third gear set that would be your best bet.
Good to know, thanks. I actually have more of a selection if I stick with those years, found an 07 with a pipe and a few other goodies including paddles for $3600

5 grand is high for a stock used bike.........

But if you have up to 5 grand to spend, look around for a new '08 sitting on some dealerships showroom floor, show him the cash and you should be able to walk out with a new bike and warranty for less them 5 grand.

'06-07 used bikes with the basics mods should not run more then $3,400-$3,800. I've seen heavy modded bikes on here go for less then 5 grand.

I prefer to keep it around three but a brand new machine for $5k is pretty tempting, I'll have to check around

Sure enough, found a local dealer selling 08' leftovers for $5k. So I'll turn this into a "what would you do?" scenario. Option 1. Buy the brand new bike and ride as-is for a while or 2. get the used low hours 07' and put the money I saved into upgrades/riding gear.

Buy the new '08 w/ warrenty, put a $25 cherry bomb on it, pull the air box lid and unplug the pipe, ride the piss out of it.

No matter what the person says, who is selling a used bike, you still don't know how the bike has been rode or taken care of.

I bought mine used and no problems but you might not be that lucky.

Alright, heres an update. After much debate I've decided to go used to save some loot. I'm checking one out in the morning that I'm more than likely going to pick up. It's an 06' with proclaimed very low hours. Also, its got a bunch of mods. The seller said he would let it go for $3600. Here's a list of the mods, it's a copy/paste from the Craigslist add.

Engine:
Yoshimura FULL Exhaust(new style canister)
Fuel Atv intake, with velocity stack.
Dynojet Power commander(dynotuned at KMS)
Yoshimura Cherry bomb
Hotcam Intake cam

Chain/sprocket:
13T front sprocket
AFAM 38T rear sprocket

Chassis:
Pro Armor Nerf Bars
Pro Armor rear skidplate
6 pack rack

Wheels/tres:
ITP wheels
HoleShot Tires. Size 22front/20rear

MISC:
Protaper handlebars(not pictured) BRAND NEW zero rides(Black)
ODI lock on grips
REAL Carbon Fiber Frame Guards
One Industries Graphics

Looks super clean in the ad, good price?

Worth the asking price? I think so, I'd just like some conformation from the experts.
